I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

I keep thinking about how this shutdown feels so different and I think it comes down to this — the administration is already basically ignoring laws and appropriations etc. A shutdown doesn’t feel as consequential when things are already bashed up and the plan is to do that more.

One fed employee told me the internal conversations feel very different from previous shutdowns.

"Every other fed I've talked to agrees how much it sucks to be furloughed, but also that this shutdown needs to continue until the administration starts respecting the rule of law," said a NOAA employee. "Even the conservative Republicans."

One curious thing on this site about speaking out against the encroachment of LLMs is that inevitably you get accused of being anti-tech. I don’t hate technology. I’ve used machine learning in my own code before. But I also recognize that oligarchs are so hellbent on pushing this tech for a reason.

My squid fun fact is that years ago we made this stupid t-shirt that made its way to Dr. Oliver Sacks as a birthday gift from Steve Silberman.

Dr. Sacks' editor would e-mail us to order more because he didn't use a computer. She said it was his favorite.

The best people love cephalopods.

In video games, you will often find a fully roasted chicken abandoned on the ground, and eating it extremely quickly makes you feel better. What's less known is that this is also true in real life

I think you’re thinking of a toupee.

A duvet is a sugary dessert that has a thin shell caramelized under direct heat
quietblkgrl.blacksky.app
Mm… I think that’s a beret. 🧐

A duvet is a hair piece typically worn by a man covering thinning or a bald spot
destinyguardian.blacksky.app
Yeah....nah, that's passé.

A duvet is a soft, round cap made of felt or wool, often associated with French fashion and military uniforms.

It’s not racial profiling, it’s reasonable suspicion, we simply think anyone with darker skin tones is suspicious and that this belief is reasonable, so it’s not racial profiling, how dare you.

McLaughlin: "Pritzker said there's racial profiling, which is absolutely false. Our officials use reasonable suspicion. That's protected under the US Constitution 4th Amendment."

Look, if you never got an A on a paper comparing the poetry of Romantic poets that you wrote hungover the same morning it was due, did you even get an English degree?

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

I wrote a 15-pg paper on the influence of Balinese shadow puppetry in politics the day before it was due by standing in a Barnes and noble, looking at the bibliographies for mentions of Bali, and then flipping to those pages. My teacher called it the best paper she’d read all year. Fuck AI.

I’ll admit when I’m wrong: I really thought it was a mistake for Senate Dems to tie the shutdown to Obamacare tax credits

Turns out that shit is popular and extremely salient right now as people are getting notices of premium increases of 200-300%

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.
