Some random thoughts on the #Bills of ‘Things I did not expect’ (Reply to Thread):

These show the economic benefits to the public of fewer air pollutants through improved health. This change now shifts story to only consider economic costs to polluters and not potential benefits. Once again, favoring big industry and making money over the people 1/2

For those unfamiliar, regulatory health impact assessments often perform an economic impact estimating the monetary cost of fewer events such as premature mortality, hospital admissions, work days lost, and school absences when considering regulatory shifts under the Clean Air Act 1/1
"In a reversal, the agency plans to calculate only the cost to industry when setting pollution limits, and not the monetary value of saving human lives, documents show."
Scoop: The EPA will no longer estimate the lives saved by reducing air pollution when writing clean-air regulations, according to documents reviewed by @nytimes.com.

Monday nerdiness. Did you know the parent of the Honeycrisp was destined for destruction? And only by the action of a new hired horticulturist, who decided the mother tree was planted in an unideal spot, was it given a final chance to prove itself. If ever in #MN a trip to the arboretum is worth it.

Dropping some stuff at the #Goodwill and I’m always amazed how long it takes people to move items from their car to the donate bin (~4 feet away). Unless these garbage bags of household goods contain unwanted faberge eggs, I’m not convinced this level of care is necessary

In sum, all bets on the 2025 WR room failed, except for Shakir and Shavers (arguably Player 53!) unexpectedly improving and taking some of the Hollins blocking role. This poor series of bets made it really hard for that WR room and Allen to succeed 3/3

Problem was Beane bet on a 2025 WR room where Shakir remains Shakir (pass), Coleman got better (failed), Palmer replaces Amari Cooper (failed), Samuel 2025 >Samuel 2024 (failed), and Elijah Moore to take the old Trent Sherfield slot (failed). Not sure who would take Mack Hopkins yards. 2/3

6) The sad development of Keon Coleman. In 2024, guy showed flashes but also alarms. Basically enough to say there’s a 50/50 chance he will be better or worse…and he got worse. Not what anyone wanted, but a statistical likelihood that was met. 1/3

It is only 1-year in to this administration. By Year 4, there will be no one left. Russel Vought will have fully achieved his goal of utterly destroying our nations public health and scientific institutions.
This is so incredibly heart-breaking. To Jay Bhattacharya and Matthew Memoli at NIH--you have betrayed the entire scientific community. Deeply committed staff are leaving in droves--because you are destroying the institution. Shame on you. www.statnews.com/2026/01/10/n...

Trump has single handedly done more to improve the social standing of China, than any action China could have done by itself. And most of Chinas ‘moves’ have been to stand stoically and say “Look how sane and stable we are compared to the US.” And it’s a winning strategy!

Watching the video is painful and people may want to look away. But it’s important to see evidence with your own eyes and draw your own conclusions. And crucially have the people see how obvious the lying is by the President and his administration to America

Bluesky is hiding our post which shows what happened in Minneapolis, even though there's no graphic content (the victim is never shown).

Video evidence shows the public what happened and allows people to form an opinion, which is especially important when officials call it an act of terrorism.

Live updates: Frey disputes that ICE killed woman in self-defense
ICE officials say the woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning in south Minneapolis after attempting to run over agents with her car. Mayor Jacob Frey called the ICE version of what happened “garba...

Had a new thermostat installed and it’s slowly dawning on me that the old one must have been reading several degrees too warm. Cause with the old temp settings on the new thermostat and everyone woke up sweating and complaining of the heat (but at least it got them up early for school!)

5) Taron Johnson is showing his age. He’s not going anywhere with his contract restructure, so it’ll be interesting to see how he changes his game. Will he be able to pull a Poyer and White and learn to become a more technical guy, who relies on precision rather than athleticism? I think he’ll do it

Despite your feelings about Klobuchar, she lets the anti-Walz voters be comfortable staying home rather than holding their nose and voting for an embarrassment like Mike Lindell. That’s why it’ll have down ballot impacts.
It is not hyperbole to say that a Klobuchar-led ticket could lead to an absolute disaster scenario for the GOP.

Like, we're talking 10+ Dem flips in the State House and at least 5 in the State Senate. Plus it would probably shut out most chances of GOP flips in Trump/DFL seats.

4) Kudos to Ray Davis. Solid rookie year, completely pushed out in Year 2 by a record James Cook season. Instead of pouting, turns himself into a top kick returner. And still showed value as a runner in 2nd half [insert gif of McDermott clappjng]

3) I didn’t expect Landon Jackson to be so ineffective. My hope was he’d be an Epenesa replacement, adequate rotational guy, makes an occasional play, low ceiling but solid floor. Not sure if he’ll be that by next season. Forces the Bills to maybe pay for yet another rotational DE while he develops

2) Jackson Hawes basically eliminated the 6 OLine formation that was so popular with the Bills. Did not expect his presence to literally change their lineup so much. Plus he proved better than expected in catching. Was an actual weapon (maybe blunt tool) in that department

1) Tyrell Shavers was a complete afterthought. He made the team via special teams, but proved unexpected mettle in blocking, plus a catch here and there. Would have NEVER guessed in Aug that he’d be so valuable that he’s basically a Week 17 rest candidate
