Eligible voters were asked whether they approved or disapproved of how National leader Luxon has been handling his job as Prime Minister.

The proportion who approved was 38%, while 52% disapproved and 10% didn't know or preferred not to say. This gives the National Party leader an overall score of -14, his lowest approval rating as Prime Minister.

Since he took the top job, 1News has surveyed voters on this question three times. In June 2024 Luxon scored -5, in March/April of this year he scored -7.

Second, Luxon is still obsessed with his government's KPIs. One of these is to reduce the number of people receiving the Jobseeker benefit to 140,000. It was 190,000 when the coalition entered office and 216,000 by the end of this year's June quarter. It could reduce the number of beneficiaries by growing the economy and creating more jobs, but great leaders think outside the box: you can also reduce benefit numbers by simply making people ineligible for the benefit.

Listening to Luxon on Breakfast this morning and the ducks guts is they sought advice from a variety of sources to determine the emissions target. The climate change experts said the target should be n, the farmers said "Yeah nah, it should be n minus heaps" and they sided with the farmers. #nzpol
