All liberals agree contrails aren't a Deep State plot to control our minds and that 2+2=4. This uniformity of opinion is quite concerning.

Def noticed I engage with ai related content just to hate on it and, unfortunately, that’s not healthy - its own type of insanity.

friends were discussing ethical quandries of artificial intelligence last night, stuff that has been discussed a million times in theory for decades, & somebody asked what i thought & i said "i don't give it any thought anymore, this shit is driving people insane and i refuse to engage with it"

someone with a billion dollars no longer experiences the world as 99% of humanity would recognize it, and so any “analysis” or critique of society they offer is fatally, irrevocably flawed. dracula complaining about the price of groceries

the disastrous refusal of the self-styled silicon valley technokings to keep anyone in their lives capable of questioning their increasingly incomprehensible politics has lead to a crisis of thinking so severe that a fifty-eight year old man believes something is important because he knows about it

lol you know what is illegal? DISCRIMINATION.

lol gentle reminder that DEI is not illegal. Supporting marginalized groups is not illegal. Anyone reneging on support is making a CHOICE to do so.

This is Clio. She did not study for the test today. Also does not know how to read. 12/10 (IG: paspastotoro)
a black and gray long-haired yorkiepoo sits at a desk in a university classroom. a piece of paper lays on the desk in front of her, her paws propped up on the desk as if she's bracing herself. there are students in the background hunched over and working on paper in front of them. the pup looks at the camera with a concerned side eye. she's realizing she probably should have read some of the homework before eating it.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

If we had internet gatekeepers, guys who wrote for Nazi sites wouldn't be writing about the need for internet gatekeepers.

Politico is recommending a column by a guy who literally blogged for Richard Spencer's original alt-right site--but who has since been rehabilitated as a very serious political commentator--on why we need to bring back "internet gatekeepers."

This is really good. But stepping back, it is also a sign of where comparative politics and political theory are going these days, towards productive engagement on basic questions of civilian rule, republicanism, and the politics of order. The field needs more work like this.

🧵 I'm excited to share that my article "Democratic Backsliding and the Limits of Civilian Control of the Military" has been accepted @thejop.bsky.social.

It answers the question "how ought militaries act when civilian leaders turn on democratic institutions?"

I see the light in our teacher candidates' eyes when they speak about working with young people.

We are light workers. I don't want that light hidden under a proverbial bushel. I want it to shine. God knows we need all the candles we can get in these bleak times.

In Taiwan, they have the Control Yuan which acts an auditor/ombudsman. Laws only matter if people enforce them, but I do think we’ve witnessed enough shenanigans to warrant a permanent department dedicated to auditing of government officials.

No institutional design can overcome a lawbreaking president, a Congress defending lawbreaking and forfeiting its own power, a Supreme Court that pretends legal text doesn’t count to facilitate lawbreaking, and a citizenry that votes for all that.
Need at least one that wants rule of law. Maybe two.

Cory Booker did the same thing. Had his bill tanked by Republicans anyway, and so we all walked away with more firm bipartisan support for the police with none of the promised reforms.

This is one place where I have to say Mamdani has good political sense about because it's very clear that's on the back of his mind as he says things but he frames his policing policy as a benefit to them so they have no real reason to go after him.

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."
