I am hearing that on his deathbed Dick Cheney received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada.

pro cuomo guy outside my polling site yesterday was yelling about mamdani "giving away free shit". someone said "did you go to public school" and he went apeshit and shouted "you think public school is free" and then started arguing with a delivery driver. Also he had his six year old son with him

Of course, this is precisely why we expect law enforcement to wear badges and uniforms and show identification. Anyone could have foreseen (and many of us did) that this would be a serious side-effect of ICE's insistence on behaving like unaccountable thugs.
New: The FBI is quietly urging ICE agents to properly ID themselves in the field.

In a bulletin to law enforcement last month, it warned of criminals posing as ICE to rob, rape, kidnap—a problem it says now demands national coordination to confront.

By me & @carolinehaskins.bsky.social:
FBI Warns of Criminals Posing as ICE, Urges Agents to ID Themselves
In a bulletin to law enforcement agencies, the FBI said criminal impersonators are exploiting ICE’s image and urged nationwide coordination to distinguish real operations from fakes.

About the best thing you can say that he seemed to realize what he'd done and regret it. far too little and far too late. Still more than you say of some of his fellow travelers.

Dick Cheney had I think the arc of a lot of republican politicians of his age, in that they assumed the foundations of liberal democracy were so rock solid they could be freely fucked with to no great cost. Then woke up one day to realize all those cracks in the foundation they wedged open mattered.

Texas has a special election for Sylvester Turner's seat (TX-18), a full seven months after he died, because Abbott capriciously delayed it.

A simple, long overdue reform would be for Congress to mandate by federal law how soon after a vacancy special elections have to happen.

Dick Cheney dying on the day Bill Kristol finds himself rooting for a socialist to be elected to run America's largest city is something alright

Every time someone awful but really old dies, I think of Hendrik Hertzberg's flawless take on Jesse Helms:

"Far too late for it to do anybody any good, Jesse Helms has died."

unfortunately some immigration advocacy orgs (understandably) do kind of focus on expanding legal grey areas where people can remain here with sorta-kinda legit status. I think the impulse behind this is humane but it is misguided because you're one bad election away from this right now.

my genuinely moderate position is that legal grey areas are very bad and we should minimize the number of people in them. you shouldn't be here for literal years while your status is determined, laying down roots and making a life it's traumatic to uproot you from. need quick, definitive decisions.
i do think Dems should moderate on immigration in the sense that Dems should redesign our immigration policy to work like people think it works: you wait for a while (but not forever) to get into the country and then you wait for a while (but not forever) to become a citizen.

Every time she comes up, I remind you all that Pamela Paul killed a pro trans paragraph in a review I wrote for the New York Times, lied about it in the press, then when I confronted her with receipts, said “Let’s keep this to ourselves.”
In which a straight woman highlights a bunch of known anti trans activists and claims there's a divide in the queer community.

It's pure propaganda and gaslighting.

Conservatives 2016-2024: dumb libs think words are violence

Conservatives in 2025: mean words are literally violence bsky.app/profile/robe...
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.
I don't know any specifically, but I know most small makers will do a custom order for a reasonable rate if you contact directly.

this is not what market capitalization means. what this means is that if the US did nothing else, it could produce seven or so NVIDIAs every year.

If you ever stumble upon any content featuring Dave the most striking thing is that he seems 48 going on 78.

He always sounds like my grandpa getting pissed off that the local diner is charging $8 for a garbage plate now and they won't even let you smoke cigs anymore.
