"...not a mismatch between how the player acts in gameplay versus the character presented through narrative, but a total absence of the character depicted in the story."

@strida.bsky.social has our last essay on Mafia: The Old Country. Please read and share

Ah, happy 88th anniversary of the day Oswald Mosley tried to sell fascism to Liverpudlians – and someone concussed him with a brick
A man in a suit stands at a microphone which has been mounted on the roof of a van. There are loudspeakers at his feet, and a building behind him. He has an arm raised, and is flinching as projectiles are hurled at him, because he's a fucking Nazi

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this TikTok since yesterday. Sherman was stressing those ladies out.

They 'only' made four of them, 3 was not good but I don't know anyone who had much good to say about 4, even in videogame circles where releasing a game at that level means it has a built in audience and people who will vouch and defend it.

Still seeing N7 stuff around at this point is just bizarre, negligence, boredom, lack of taste? Like those games are okay at best (I liked 2 in my memory of 2009), but like...how did that become such a thing that commands the level of fandom it still has? Weird moment in time continuing.

damning thread on how the IDF's propaganda arm is scraping 3D assets intended for things like games, films, or architectural purposes and kitbashing together supposed hamas bunkers and iranian nuclear sites. a genocide campaign propped up in part by someone's nephew who got too into blender.

NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

Tsui having his cake and eating it too, screwing around in all his best ways with having Chow Yun-fat swallow and then choke up that cigarette at the beginning of ABT III. Yeah, this is the most charismatic motherfucker on earth and I'd like to welcome him to hell.

Looks more and more like the raid in Chicago was more than just a fascist terror raid but the use of federal violence to help a bank empty a building they held in receivership.

I have watched my talented, ethical friends lose their jobs because Nazi fuckups like Weiss siphon all the money out of the room and use it to create propaganda mills where sycophants tell the Führer and his thugs they're so special and brave and everyone loves them
asherelbein.bsky.social
No shit I'm furious. I spent eleven years learning to write well about complex topics in ethical ways, often for criminally low rates, because I believe that work's important. It's deeply insulting to see a total dipshit get fabulously wealthy for telling the rich what they want to hear!

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

They were really good when I saw them a few months ago, but yeah it was the whole Absolute Elsewhere set, so ymmw. They even played some of the ambient stuff during the encore, but I think that was cause the show was a one-off.

Yet again thinking about this Ditko cover which remains maybe the most relatable piece of art I’ve ever seen.
The cover of Haunted no. 3 where a titularly haunted guy is running toward the viewer saying, "Why? Why? Why? Why?" While a banner above him says, "You BETTER believe "THIS IS HOW IT IS." And there's a cemetery with a caped goblin and a ghost or something behind him.

So, I'm making a video game based on Palestinian folklore. It's called Thursday of the Dead, and you can talk to a Palestinian ghouleh. It will have branching narrative, and art all made by a human (me). I need exactly $100 to launch it on Steam when it's finished.

It'll never be lost on me that a particular subset of the liberal commentariat in both North America and Western Europe were deeply infatuated with this woman up until the very moment she decided to talk about that one issue you're still basically not allowed to talk about lol.
