if they were going to cave anyway they should’ve done it a week ago to spare SNAP recipients the agony.

If Dems accept this deal, it will help the GOP cement the following ideas into the public conscience over the coming 4 weeks:

-Shutdown was Dems fault/responsibility
-They did it for nothing
-They caved to Trump

Having accepted responsibility, it will also cripple them in the follow up debate.
First, I will say this: never believe an Axios backed story with only a Thune test vote schedule.

That being said, for obvious reasons to anyone who sees my posts regularly, I don't think a deal is a good idea for Dems, but the rumored deal seems pretty poor even factoring in my priors against.
IMO there are two legitimate goals to non-cooperation (which would likely lead to shutdown):

-Demonstrate Dem opposition & non-complicity
-End filibuster

if the Democrats are willing to accept this deal, in particular, i don't think a single Senator should make it through their primary. this just makes health inequity worse and lets Trump send out checks with his name on them!
"A development that appeared to break the logjam: Republicans proposed that healthcare funding be provided directly to households rather than used to pay for a 1-year extension of ACA subsidies. That involves sending federal money into FSAs instead of insurance companies" www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Republicans Pitch Alternative to ACA Extension to End Government Shutdown
A proposal by GOP senators to send money directly to consumers’ health accounts rather than to insurance companies showed signs of breaking a stalemate on negotiations.

The regime despises poor people, yes. And importantly it does not fear poor people as a political force. It's important to take both of these together to understand what they are doing with SNAP. They do not believe that they will incur lasting political costs for their current actions.

If you were trying to speed run Revolution; starving your most vulnerable people is definitely one of the ways to get it moving.

Giving them the means to eat after depriving it; and then trying to loudly 'undo' that fact...

You're basically building your own guillotine in the square.
Trump administration demands that states 'undo' full SNAP benefit payments
The Trump administration has resisted continuing the SNAP program, which provides food stamps to 42 million Americans, during the government shutdown.

“individual employees asked to change behavior in response to catastrophic mistakes made by their high-level leadership over the past 3-7 years” really feels like the overarching story of the current times
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

I get something that might be worse in that relaxing itself is something that stresses me out because of what I’m not doing when I’m relaxing.

healthy society we have here
ME: [extremely burnt out] I need to take the day off to relax

ALSO ME: I wonder if there is a way that I could relax that would be more productive

I think a number of press outlets badly want there to be a groundswell of anti-trans feeling, because the ownership/senior editorial of those papers have absolutely cooked their own brains on transphobia. It seems to be largely an elite psychosis!
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.

one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.

when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

i know it’s not the rosiest take away but there are a lot of people who have been loving this shit, especially the ICE raids, national guard, etc, and those people must be politically brought to heel and taught the hard way that they don’t get to do shit like this.
Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues www.ipsos.com/en-us/lesson...

It’s been suggested withholding SNAP is meant to provoke uprisings and give Trump an excuse to activate the military against citizens—despite him showing he doesn’t need an excuse.

The reality is more simple: He enjoys creating suffering. The creation of suffering is a through-line in his policies.
