Cuomo just “both sides-ed” the indictment of AG Tish James. Disqualifying on its own, aside from everything else about him

Andrew Cuomo is incapable of speaking clearly and directly about Trump’s authoritarianism.

A crowd of right-wing agitators just stormed through chanting “Whose streets? Our streets.” A woman appears to have been shoved to the ground (hear clothes were dirty and hand had a small cut). A right-wing man may have been punched.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

their pitch to voters: you’ll have a better spot in the hierarchy than you do now. dems pitch is “we’ll be competent managers and reward various interest groups whose causes may align with your values.” if you ask me, dems could do better. the bar is so low man. we can’t keep losing to these fuckers

and this is in turn tied to what they think america is supposed to be: a rigidly hierarchical and patriarchal society dominated by a religious and business elite

im rewatching The Shining for the millionth time and while i think the book does some things better (getting us into Jack's head) the book is a story about a good man swallowed by ghosts and Kubrick's story is about a family annihilator, and thus much, much scarier

"Looking through this whole poll, the single number Enten cites in his segment is basically the most pro-Trump number in the poll."

Oof.

52% of Americans say Trump is “doing what he promised.” But not all those people *like* what he’s doing! That is key context for interpreting this number, but was notable missing from a viral CNN segment (that the White House later turned into a press release)

Is Trump “doing what he promised”? | Weekly roundup for October 12, 2025
And what does that even mean? Also this week: Shutdown polls; Left-wing populism; Low favorability ratings for all U.S. leaders; Judges' concerns about Trump; + more!

Chicago journalist Debbie Brockman, who was thrown to the ground & handcuffed by ICE, has been released without charges

DHS said she assaulted an officer, but eye witnesses claim she didn’t

The lack of charges makes it clear that ICE is lying to try and cover up the fact that they attack the press

thinking about the liberal politicians willing to try to compromise with fascists by abandoning minority groups they don't really like - i wish they understood that fascists will come for everyone eventually. even themselves. fascism unopposed is a ruined state with everyone dead

I think bar associations really have a role to play in this revolting state of affairs. The arguments are in such blatant bad faith, the people making them should be shunned by their peers.

The case against Comey is beyond weak. The case against James is worse. It is based on a lie, and they know they're lying because exculpatory evidence that contradicts the indictment had already been presented to a grand jury in another jurisdiction. Everyone involved with this needs to be disbarred

We should prosecute GOP criminality. Add more seats to the Supreme Court, a binding code of ethics, and impeach Alito & Thomas. Merrick Garland moved too slowly and was generally cowardly. Abolish ICE. Stop the GOP anti-trans bills. The Trump regime's moves to criminalize dissent amount to fascism.

i want a "resistance ranking" for dems that grades them on how seriously they're taking this

something like support for:

1. prosecuting gop criminality
2. court reform
3. procedural agressiveness
4. end ICE
5. trans rights
6. calling this fascism

+ points for having taken personal risks

I keep watching Mamdani's video in disbelief of how good it is... centering BIPOC trans street activism, SOPHIE soundtrack, pivoting to supporting funds for trans housing and healthcare...
madycast.com
Mamdani promises to deploy *hundreds* if lawyers to fight for trans rights, create a new office of LGBTQ affairs, and allocate millions of dollars to fund housing and healthcare for trans kids and adults

This is what fighting back looks like--elevating activists to materually support trans people.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.
