the Bajoran version of the Bechdel test is “do two named women talk to each other about something other than murder” and I love “Deep Space Nine” because it fails almost every episode

Most "classics" are boring as fuck to a modern reader in no small part because the context of the story is not understood by them and so many of the allusions and "inside jokes" known to then-contemporary readers have been lost in time and in translation

Alec Baldwin is in old episodes of Knots Landing. He plays a TV preacher. And it’s impossible not to hear his I AM GOD speech from Malice.
Alec Baldwin, looking about eight years old.

Diane Keaton in her Manhattan apartment with Buster, an Abyssinian, photographed by Jill Krementz in 1977
black & white photograph of young Diane Keaton smiling and standing next to a white refrigerator in a barren-looking kitchen. her cat Buster is crouched on top of the fridge playing with/swatting her hair in the upper right hand corner. she's wearing a long skinny white scarf with a dot-grid pattern, a high-neck white blouse with an ascot/kerchief around the neck, and a black blazer/skirt or blazer dress over what looks like a vest

I cannot overstate how utterly formative this man and his work was for me, a baby comedy nerd in the pre-Internet, pre-sprawling cable TV days. He introduced me to Carlin. And Python. And so much more.

People are really hurting right now and I'm not sure a new Tron movie is the answer.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I think anyone who saw the episode where Mr. Rogers explains the Trolley Problem has it seared in their memory forever.
So much violence, depictions of gore we never thought possible in puppetry.
We wept, we screamed, we were scarred.
Still, it was educational.
So that’s good.
I guess.

I was trying to explain the appeal of Biz when I was watching that documentary recently. And this song has made me realize: Biz was a novelty cartoon rapper like Humpty. Except there was no Shock G for him to turn back into. He was just Biz 24/7.

I recently discovered that Humpty Hump and Biz Markie did a song where they just insult each other for 3 minutes. And it's my new favorite thing.

I keep indirectly hearing about drama involving Bsky leadership. Which I would otherwise know nothing about because I guess I’m not invited to the same parties y’all are.

And I wouldn’t go to them if I was.

I think the question of AI personhood is pertinent and a discussion that will need to be had in several hundred years when we're close to creating actual sentient AI.

Not so sure why we're having it now when we can't even get others to agree that certain people are people.
