Mayor Wilson has now indicated he will expedite the rule making process for the Detention Facility Impact Fee. I am grateful for that.

We also need District Attorney Nathan Vasquez to outline how he plans to hold ICE agents accountable for the unlawful use of tear gas against a group of families.
I recorded this today, in Portland, Oregon, at a huge march to the ICE facility in SW. The crowd was full of cyclists who had ridden there in memory of Alex Pretti; members of several labor unions; and ordinary citizens of every age, including this little girl. So of course ICE deployed tear gas.

A spot of good news. This baby should absolutely never have gone through what he did. Prosecute ICE.
Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Today I saw ICE gas little white kids in the streets of Portland with chemical weapons. Imagine what they're doing to brown and black kids in the detention camps

Fuck.
Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

Massive group bike ride in honor of Alex Pretti, to the Labor Against ICE union rally today. I didn't really capture the scale, there were a lot of people, both on bikes and at the rally/march itself. Way to turn out, Portland. #bikesky #ICEout #laboragainstICE

Ok I love that the Portland Mercury's answer to "what should I do this weekend" is: three protests against ICE, eat some hot dogs for Weiner Week, and a good ol communal rage-howl-at-the-moon.
We've got the makings of a busy weekend in Portland. Our picks include:

-ICE OUT! Justice for Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and all others murdered by ICE
-Labor Says ICE Out
-Ice Out For Good — Honk & Wave With Indivisible Oregon

A large protest, dubbed “Labor Against ICE,” is expected to start near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland on Saturday. At least 30 unions endorsed the protest and planned to attend in some fashion.

It was a great event! Tons of kids and families came out to march in the rain. Kids care about their communities and want their neighbors and friends to be safe from ICE.
A number of families gathered at Laurelhurst Park in Portland for an Abolish ICE Family March on Jan 30.

The event, organized by Little Folx & Family Friend Portland, was in solidarity with the nationwide general strike.

You hear about the big protests, but meanwhile there are so many other actions happening. Today I took my kids and my mom down to a family/kid-forward protest and march in Portland OR. Probably 500-1000 people, huge numbers of preschool and elementary age kids, marched in the rain. #portland #ICEout

If you are a student whose NSF GRFP application was returned without review for vague 'eligibility' reasons:
1) Let your department chair & Graduate School know. Encourage them to contact NSF & congress
2) Write to your congressional reps.
3) Write to [email protected] to request re-consideration;

i was actually shocked to see the numbers on new research from Global Energy Monitor on new gas projects in the US: nearly 100 gigawatts of power—enough to power tens of millions of homes—are currently in development explicitly to power data centers. At the end of 2023 that number was 4 gigawatts
Data Centers Are Driving a US Gas Boom
Gas projects in the US pipeline explicitly linked to data centers increased by almost 25 times over the past two years, according to new research from Global Energy Monitor.

God this poor baby.
Liam is sick with fever & shows extreme lethargy, according to reports from his parents—he did not wake up throughout the entire visit from his representatives—this child is clearly experiencing severe shock—he should be in an emergency room, not squalid rooms with moldy food and contaminated water.
Just visited with Liam and his father at Dilley detention center. I demanded his release and told him how much his family, his school, and our country loves him and is praying for him.
