Anthony, a 64-year-old Army veteran, is one of thousands of Georgians supported by St. Vincent de Paul Georgia. The Chamblee nonprofit recently won a $5 million Bezos Foundation grant. (Photo courtesy of SVdP) A gift just in time for the holidays will allow St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Georgia, one of the state’s oldest and largest social services nonprofits, to help thousands of individuals facing homelessness. On Dec. 1, the Chamblee-based organization announced that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos are fueling its continued work in the community with a $5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.

We saw a district in Tennessee engineered to be R+22 swing to be ~R+13 this week. I'm betting a bunch of those new districts in Texas don't have that kind of margin to lose. When we empower Texans to vote, the GOP bites it, so let's take care of Texans, y'all.

This is as expected.

What we're not gonna do is give up on Texas. It is not a red state, it is a vote suppressed and gerrymandered state. Our job now in caring for each other is to find out how we can help get out the vote in Texas. I suggest following @andreagrimes.com

I know we want to look away, sometimes we *need* to look away for at least a bit, just to get by, to try to get through it all.

But sometimes, it's just too horrible to look away. We have to ask ourselves: what we will say, what did we do, where were we, when all this was happening?
Pure, unmitigated hate.

We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.

The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Which is why the rage.

Police have access to massive surveillance networks that track the public whether they are suspects or not. That means probably for every 1 officer caught using the system to harass or spy on people they have feuds with, ex's, activists, journalists, there are probably 100 more we don't know about.

What if, hear me out, Atlanta officials focus on building sidewalks, repairing sewers, expanding voter-mandated transit projects, dismantling surveillance cameras, preventing school closures, and avoiding costly taxpayer-funded settlements towards victims of police violence right now?

2/2. I wrote something a couple of months ago in response to some of the national kudos Atlanta has received lately on affordable housing. My take: some incremental improvement vs. the previous administration, but not a paradigm shift by any means. And far too little *deeply affordable* housing.
