COVER REVEAL 🔥✨🏴‍☠️🏳️‍🌈 I’m so excited to finally show folks this BEAUTIFUL cover!!

Stunning art by Jan (@thistlearts.bsky.social), who not only obliged me in portraying all three (!!!) of my queer, poly, radical pirates—he also absolutely nailed their dynamic!

SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE is warm, cozy, & out today. I hope you love it! 💗

The story: A cranky baker's erroneous obituary brings the woman who got away back into his life--& now he needs to convince her to stay.
The heat level: steamy!
The baked goods: plentiful!

You're not really screwing over the publishers. They make up for your pirating by jacking up prices, paying authors less, cancelling that series you love because it didn't sell enough, etc. You're hurting authors & your fellow readers because you feel entitled & I, for one, fucking hate you for it.
I see it's the seasonal argument about why piracy to fuck over Amazon and publishers is okay while many authors live below the poverty line.

This book absolutely fucking rips. I would not actually call it cozy--it's in conversation with NYC's early gay memoirs, Edmund White esp., a slice of life family story about folk music set in Greenwich Village. Unbelievably beautiful.
I do NOT go in for cozy, but Cat Sebastian’s latest is an actually palatable comfort read about redemption and hope in what looks like an impossibly difficult historical moment. Definitely written for fall 2025.

Two thumbs way up.

With Lazarus, Home from the War being named to the Fated Mates best of 2025 list this week, it seems like the perfect time to announce the preorder for my new novella!

Comes out 12/21 (Sam's birthday) but it's more about the solstice than Christmas.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

and here we see that once it gets late enough in the day, the historian naturally reverts to the spelling conventions of the time they study
Strangely to us, John's wiffe was called Richard - one of many early modern names now gendered differently.

write for the person who's going to re-read this manuscript at least 15 times before it sees a bookshelf—me.

if that person gives up, book does not exist.
Been pondering the "write for yourself / no, write for an audience" convos I've seen going around. This obviously varies for everyone, but for me it's "write for myself, edit for an audience." I can't finish a project unless I retreat into a bubble and pretend nobody will ever read it--

After Hours at Dooryard Books by Cat Sebastian is out today so nobody has any excuse for reading anything else.

This romance is like six coping mechanisms in a trench coat and not all of them are healthy, but everyone’s trying their best. I am desperate to hear other people react to it.

Publishing strategy:

Observe lots of people like romance in fantasy
Label everything romantasy
Observe lots of people like fantasy without romance
Label everything anti-romantasy
Observe lots of people like romance in fantasy
Label everything anti-anti-romantasy...
This week, I was sent a proof from one of the big publishers. In their pack, they described it as an "anti romantasy".

An anti romantasy.

I have so many thoughts about this, I honestly don't know where to begin.

lol tell me you've never met a reader before without telling me
I’ll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to “fix” it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that?? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/b...

I am so ready to read some romance novels that take Big Risks. Give me stakes. Real imperfections. Trust me to not need your characters to be exemplary, highly-therapized individuals. I’d like a theme or two, but I am not a baby bird, and I can chew on it myself
