You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught
from South Pacific

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

I dont think enough Americans realize Republicans are gearing up for permanent rule. I dont know if we will get to midterm elections. Even if we do, with gerrymandering, the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and violent intimidation, they'll rig the elections for minority rule.

All hands on deck.

Price increases for "things" under Donald Trump:

Coffee is up 26%
Baby strollers are up 25%
Beef is up 14%
School supplies are up 7%
Electricity is up 5%

Car prices are at a RECORD high.

And thanks to Republicans in Congress, health insurance premiums are about to DOUBLE.
Childishly purposefully mispronouncing names seems to make some people feel superior.
Reminded of a chapter in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings where white women decide what name to call Maya Angelou, after already misnaming her "Margret" not Marguerite the ladies decided to call her "Mary" for ease.

Well, this is horrifying, @masslive.bsky.social.
What the fuck?! MassLive is now using generative "AI" to create articles, which would be bad enough in any context but is especially egregious when publishing allegations that someone committed a crime.

Generative AI was used to draft this story, based on information provided by federal charging documents. It was reviewed and edited by MassLive.com.

This is good because it'll have a cumulative effect. The more institutions that stand up against Trump's attempted autocratic takeover, the more likely that others will do the same. There is safety in numbers.

Dems should realize 1990s ended collegial bipartisanship when GOP initiated an "us v them" zero sum model of politics & governance
GOP eschewed bipartisanship (Hastert Rule) & adopted Gingrich's lists of words
GOP/Fox incited aggrieved victimhood
Dems: always Charlie Brown in the Lucy football gag

Whenever Democrats are tempted to pull out the old “spirited disagreements but we’re all Americans” bromide, they need to remember this first.
Leavitt: "The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."

It's important for you to know that Republicans have been turning these depraved adults loose on your kids in high school and college for years now. I warned people constantly about Turning Point USA and the 30+ year old creep Charlie Jerk that was hanging around them.

Yup. Notably, neither Tom Homan nor anybody else in the Trump admin has outright denied that he took and kept the $50,000 in taxpayer money given to him by the FBI in their bribery scheme.

Every time they’re asked, they either pivot or attack the questioner. But they don’t deny it.
To @DaveWeigel.bsky.social’s point, it’s never once been “no,” and everyone in Trump’s government is refusing to answer what happened to the $50,000 in taxpayer money that Homan never denied taking inside a paper bag.

“The 3.5% rule is a concept in political science that states that when 3.5% of the population of a country protest nonviolently against a government, that government is likely to fall from power.”

If you can get to a No Kings rally this Saturday, please do.

Media allows GOP & Trump continue to shove the Overton Window to autocracy.
Bipartisan, middle of the road opinions from the 1970s widely receive a designation of "radical looney left" today.
Freeing the Upper Class from taxes shrunk the Middle Class & made life for the majority of Americans poorer.

The racist-ass Supreme Court says race can't be a factor for college admissions or redistricting but racial profiling is perfectly fine for ICE to bash brown and Black skulls.

F this corrupt institution.

Expand the Court.

Finally, some common sense from Oklahoma education.

Ryan Walters turned classrooms into culture war battlegrounds. Reversing his Bible mandate isn’t “anti-religion,” it’s accepting the fact that the Bible is not a history book!

Schools should teach, not preach.

Tomorrow, we release the Steady State’s assessment of American democracy—written by former national security officials using the same tools once used to evaluate authoritarian regimes abroad. The conclusion is clear: We are facing an existential threat of growing autocracy here in the US.

What do I know and I'm not saying it's a magic bullet or anything like that but it sure seems to me that Dems should run hard on the Argentina bailout. Not anywhere near the worst thing Trump has done, but i suspect it's unusually clarifying.
Jeffries: "It's perplexing to us that Rs refuse to spend a dime to protect the healthcare of the American people, but somehow the Trump admin found $40b to bail out a right-wing wannabe dictator in Argentina in ways that are also going to continue to hurt our soybean farmers in Iowa & the Midwest"

There have been plenty of jokes about Republicans forgetting who was president in 2020, but the party’s habit of forgetting about the Jan. 6 attack is far less funny.

Speaker Mike Johnson, I’m looking in your direction. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
The Jan. 6 attack gets in the way of Republican Party talking points (again)
