The DHS funding needs to include specific criminal penalties for officers who do, or order, things like using teargas on peaceful protesters, assaulting, unlawfully detaining, etc., with a nice long statute of limitations.

They’ve been gassing kids in Portland Oregon. A school had to move because of the constant chemicals. People in the apartment building across from ICE get gassed all the time. Elders. Families. Pets.

I got tear gassed too. Totally peaceful protest, largely nurses and teachers. Elderly man near me couldn't open his eyes and a woman near me was comforting her baby. Right now I'm still in the OHSU parking garage nearby wondering why nobody seems able to leave... cars not moving at all.

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

If there comes a day when police put their bodies between the feds with guns and their targets, I will praise the police for doing so. I don’t expect to see that day. It might even be a dangerous escalation. But until that day comes … I assume they are helping the feds.
