When cruelty is the point, as it so very clearly is with these fascists, every act of kindness is an act of resistance.

Be kind, look out for each other, and stomp your boots on the faces of fascism.

Life for the civilians who survived in Gaza is in ruins. They're homeless, jobless and hungry, and rely entirely on our direct donations to survive and rebuild.

Please give to my dear friend Tasneem so she can feed her children and make a home. And to others. ❤️ 🙏

💔Today is my birthday, and the world has forgotten me. No calls, no messages, not even a single donation for my sick child. We sit hungry, broken, invisible… while life goes on around us. If even a spark of humanity remains in you, please don’t let us vanish into nothing.❤️‍🩹

Here’s a beautiful tree.

(don’t mind the human; I’m just there for scale. I’m 170cm tall, so my wingspan should also be in that neighborhood)
Photograph of me leaning against a humongous double-trunked redwood tree with my arms outstretched and maybe spanning 1/4 of the way across the base. The tree towers up to the forest canopy beyond which is a partly cloudy sky

Doesn’t the “mute thread” function cover that? Though I don’t know if, for example, you do it on a reply within a thread, whether or not it only mutes from that reply downward or if it also mutes upthread. Regardless, it should mute any interactions with that specific post & any response to it.

I genuinely cannot express how vital it is that you train yourself to recognize AI-generated images and videos for your own good because none of this is going away and many, many people are counting on you to fall for their shit

I love how good the Switch and Switch 2 (and presumably SteamDeck?) are at this. If it’s an offline game, don’t even have to pause. Many times in Dark Souls if I was at a quiet place, I’d just hit the power button to sleep my Switch, go do some chores, come back, wake up the Switch, and carry on.😎👍🏼

Fantastic 🧵 that both celebrates Jane Goodall AND reminds us that she did not work alone & the contributions of the locals she’d relied on to do her research are so often overlooked and ignored.

Decolonizing science does not minimalize those who inspire us; it gives more from whom to be inspired.

As a primatologist, Jane Goodall was a huge inspiration to me. I admired the way she describes chimpanzee behavior with such detail and empathy, and she’s inspired so many people and advocated for chimpanzee conservation and welfare.

However, I'm dismayed at what her narrative leaves out (1/10)

Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing
Dear President Obama,
I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.
Love,
Ms Rachel

As someone currently doing the bicycle nomad thing and so camping under the open sky far more often than not, hard disagree. I don’t want to share these wonderful spaces with those taking and following orders from a fascist dictator piece of shit.

And sadly, all good things must come to an end. Goodbye, Avenue of the Giants, perhaps my favorite route to #bicycle in the entire US. Hello again US101 with all of your truck traffic (but hey, quite a lot of wide shoulders!).

Heh. As I was taking my phone off the QuadLock mount to take some pictures of the Avenue of the Giants, I accidentally pressed the photo button & got the first shot, which isn’t bad if you ignore my head intruding. 😅 Anyway, the Avenue is a magical place.

The Eel River is a constant companion along the Avenue of the Giants. Both times I’ve seen it (now & back in 2021) it has seemed to be running a bit shallow, but I’m sure that’s fine. Totally fine. Right? 😥

Still it is mighty pretty when it shows itself though the trees. 🌲🚵🏼‍♂️👍🏼

“When streets became calmer & safer, more people felt comfortable trying a bike commute for the first time. Families began pedaling to the park…Local businesses saw new life…And cycling stopped feeling like a niche activity—it became part of everyday Parisian life.”

This was something that was solidified for me in/after 2020 protests against police brutality: both of these parties (and our entire economy) are deeply invested in both the prison and military industrial complexes, and those investments inevitably lead to what we're seeing now.
jesspish.bsky.social
In a fight between Pritzker and and police, who is going to win? This is what happens when both parties allowed law enforcement to become one of the most powerful political actors in the country -- a taxpayer-funded political movement that wants to kill people.

Whiteness (especially in the US) in a nutshell: enjoying the spoils of someone else’s hard work every damn day.

Also capitalism in a nutshell. Probably why late stage capitalism is such a white supremacist endeavor.
cheryllynneaton.bsky.social
Trans rights protect EVERY GENDER. Just like the rights black people fought for protect EVERY RACE. Including white people! Y'all are enjoying the spoils of someone else's hard work every damn day.

Trans rights are civil rights. If you aren't willing to die on the hill of trans rights, then you aren't willing to die on the hill of Black rights. Of Jewish rights. Of disabled rights. Of gay rights. Of anyone's rights. Human rights.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Our ancestors were called uncivilized because their connection to nature challenged the capitalist obsession with controlling land.
bioalex.bsky.social
It has seemed to me that the practical goal state of capitalism IS slavery. Someone does all the work at as little cost as the capitalist can get away with, & the capitalist reaps all the profits. Owning those who do the work means the least cost for the work.
