It's so far away from the most important thing going on at the moment, but the symbolism of presidential inaugurations happening at the Capitol is not an accident! The executive goes to the legislature take office!
Trump: "Two views of the Great Ballroom being built on the site of our wonderful White House — It is on budget, and ahead of schedule! ... Because of its unprecedented structural, safety, and security features, it will also be used for future Presidential Inaugurations."

@zzyzx.bsky.social Phish stat question that’s been on my mind: Harry Hood closed out my first ever show (7/9/1999) and also opened my 2nd show (12/11/1999). How unlikely is it to see Phish play the same song consecutively?

My day 1 Olympics hot take: the drone shots are cool, but we need NBC to filter out the high pitched whine they create.

If you told me this was a Craig Solo lyric from "God in Chicago" I'd have to go look it up to make sure you were telling the truth.
"we got deiced in Cleveland" is a plausible Hold Steady lyric

I’ve tried to explain this to my kids. When my wife and I were dating in college, she went to Cancun with her parents. I called once to talk to her, which involved an international long distance call to the hotel front desk, asking for her room, then asking her dad if I could speak to her!
Tangential, but no one under 40 will ever understand what a big deal long distance phone calls used to be. Expensive in the US and a genuine ordeal for overseas. As late as 1986, ATT could only handle 25 US-UK phone calls simultaneously. 25!
