Well, so long as the driver is cooperating with police, it’s alright then. Fucking hell, something’s got to change.

Tell your friends in the RCMP to start demanding that mayor and council fast track safe separated infrastructure so that micro mobility users have safe spaces to ride. Since your organization is also interested in people’s safety, it would help if you joined them in this message.
The RCMP has shared a useful visual, reminder to help keep everyone safe when using an E-Scooter. Remember, unsafe behaviour like riding on sidewalks, doubling up, going too fast, or not wearing a helmet can lead to fines and serious injuries.

Meanwhile @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social can't be bothered to provide anything resembling a complete network. Instead, they prefer the piecemeal approach of having developers implement and pay for it, one property frontage at a time.
London is fast becoming a cycling city. As each new piece in the network appears—which has more than quadrupled from 90 to 431 km since 2016—so do new cyclists. Its infrastructure now sees a stunning 1.5 million daily users—a 43% spike since 2019—moving nearly half as many people as the Tube below.🧵

This is a reminder for all cyclists to file your T-7725C with the Canada Revenue Agency to ensure you don't pay any taxes. This is a very real thing, and it is what completely justifies drivers wanting to murder us. Like, it's completely understandable.

Enforcement of traffic laws is a “cash grab” but also we need to “see some tax contribution” from cyclists because we need more money for roads.

When a person ages out of driving, bikes are there to offer continued freedom. Shame @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social doesn't provide the infrastructure to support this freedom.
In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs.

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle lanes don't 'restrict freedom', they expand it.

Every single day in the @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social. Sadly, the city isn't really interested in doing anything about the horrible driver behaviour in our community, or the road designs which allow it. If you aren't in a car, you aren't a priority.
Have any of you experienced something like this (or worse) due to dangerous conditions caused by a driver turning right on red?

Why the hell is BC Hydro scheduling all day service cuts in the middle of December? Particularly when many people only have electric heat sources in their homes?

No. Don't shame users for riding how it feels safe for them when the city does nothing to provide safe infrastructure for active modes. They do a lot of talking about prioritizing active transport but have done nothing to provide safe networks for people using micromobility options for transport.

The EPA has approved a new pesticide that contains PFAS, or 'forever chemicals', to be used on vegetables like lettuce, broccoli and potatoes.

Driver behavior once again exonerated and blamed on safe infrastructure needed to protect against that behavior.

Drivers: I know you think you’re doing cyclists a favour by stopping & waving us through an intersection while you’ve got right of way, but you really aren’t. You’re being unpredictable and screwing up the flow of traffic for everyone and just causing further delays for us to safely cross. Stop it.

I think that @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social should adopt a mandatory policy where any and all road improvements are required to incorporate protected bike infrastructure. Our current pace of implementation is getting us nowhere. This avenue could easily have been made a safe route for active transport.
As predicted, the very worst sort of cycling infrastructure is being stencilled in today. This in a city that keeps promoting active transportation. Critics will say, “Use the MUP” that runs adjacent. Yeah, the one that’s mostly unusable due to its popularity with pedestrians.

Meanwhile in @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social the RCMP regularly set up speed checks outside a single school while ignoring the traffic chaos around the pickup zone of that and nearby schools. In fact, they will ignore parents stopped in fire zones and crosswalks while heading to their speed check.
I love this so much. We need to make car culture take a back seat to people’s safety. #stopcenteringcars.
To address safety issues (bc of drivers) my kids’ school recently changed the pick up process to get rid of the car pick up line entirely.

Caregivers have to park nearby & walk up to the blacktop to get their kids.

It’s calmer, safer, and bikes can still roll right up onto the blacktop.
