I think @sarahjeong.bsky.social said it's because they devalue women's labor and a LOT of this Scary Logistics stuff comes from people who don't understand that basically all of the civic life they enjoy is created with the help of free labor, largely by women.

This is one of the things that I find is most shocking to people outside Minnesota who don’t realize it yet—the scale at which everyone who isn’t white has been forced into a spectrum of hiding.

Very good article drawing out the Tahrir Square comparison.
Knutson mentioned in passing that his neighbor had “an adopted brown kid down there; they hid her in the basement yesterday.” This kind of thing no longer sounds weird in Minneapolis. Many people are hiding indoors—so many that, in a city with a substantial minority population, I hardly saw any Black or Latino faces on the street.

Almost every time I volunteer to do the actual work with some group - from phonebanking to door knocking to folding zines or whatever - the crowd is anywhere from 70 to 90 percent femme. Also, primarily OLDER people.

Older ladies actually make shit happen.

Have you noticed most mayors aren't calling on police to arrest or stop ICE?
It's because the majority of police side with ICE and mayors calling for this and the police refusing would end the notion police are under civil authority.
The cops are just as bad up here in Canada

2/3 of homicide deaths in Minneapolis this year are ICE murders. about 8% of male homicide deaths nationally are at the hands of police. you cannot separate acceptance of state violence at the hands of LEOs from MAGA’s justification of state violence now.
