If an "unlikeable" character is realistically flawed but not extra dumb for no reason & they yearn in a pathetic fashion I can love them 💀

Its "everyone ADORE this person immediately" characters I struggle with. If the author pushes too hard or it's a heavy-handed self insert I'm not for it.

Charlie's latest prompt is so fun. It's also been interesting how many of us love our MCs for their bad traits.🤣

But there's some sort of nebulous limit, perhaps? I know I've disengaged from a lot of media because the MC was too unlikable.

Wynnifred is a character stuck in a paradox of being uniquely spoiled due to her being gifted in social charms & occult arts as well as profoundly neglected/abused. Laban is the clever demon she summons to obey - except he challenges her at every turn & uses their attraction/her private longing to be better & more than her upbringing to kick off her growth. He's still a demon, though, & the queer friend group (that goes full poly) gets up to all kind of mischief. They heal & soften one another.

Security is a must for creation. Yes, my work explores dark themes born out of past trials, but I didn't create a career DURING those trials. I was able to create when I had the safety to take time off, go to therapy, and start feeling safe. Financially secure artists will give you better art

It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

I chose the Edwardian era for Mere Flesh because I always wanted to write a sexy period drama with the weird societal rules heightening some of the tension. I learned it was a lot of frippery to keep track of, I'll tell you that much. 💀

I chose a semi-vague Italian Renaissance era fantasy setting for Render to Silver because I feel it's a time where you can really lean into classical decadence & luxury. Plus it was fun!
