It seems to me that what’s culturally normal in the United States is not getting into other people’s private business. It’s only weird obsessives like Gavin Newsom who want to poke around in people’s pants before letting them play sports or use the bathroom. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8-d...

1. In a Sunday Night surprise, the trans healthcare coverage ban has been removed from the military NDAA.

Congressional leaders released the negotiated bill this evening, and though the House AND Senate contained the provision, it is not in the final bill!

Trans Healthcare Coverage Ban Stripped From Negotiated Military NDAA Bill In Sunday Night Surprise
Anti-DEI and sports ban provisions for the military still exist in the bill, but the removal of a health care provision is a major victory for transgender people in congressional legislation.

If we want more people who have the choice to drive not to drive, driving has to be the less convenient option. We are so far from this in Seattle unfortunately.

Look, I'm just gonna tell cishet white people right now--Newsom ain't the one. You got Walz and Pritzker out here. You do not need a Bill Clinton clone wearing Mitt Romney's skin.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Thursday that the Democratic Party needed to be “more culturally normal” and “less judgmental.”

Almost TWO YEARS after a driver veered off the road and destroyed a bus shelter, fully grown tree, and concrete seating, the shelter has been replaced.

We’ve been begging for improvements here since the crash. Thank you @seattledot.bsky.social @kingcountymetro.bsky.social for coming through!

i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

"Biological people" was always where this eugenicist rhetoric was headed - ie "biological women", "biological pronouns" - because they genuinely don't believe trans people are even human. This dehumanizing language is essential for them to paint trans people as genetically incompatible with society.
Kishwer Falkner in The Times talking about the rights of "biological people". As compared to trans people, who are, of course, non-biological.

There's a city council member in Albuquerque who was elected as a Dem but typically votes with the conservative/GOP faction. But she is retiring this fall.

The election to replace her is on Tuesday; the result could (if they win) tip control of the council to liberals.

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back.

Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance.

Good. Intoxicated driving is a factor is ~20% of fatal crashes every year in Seattle.

The more robust solution is mandating cars to have built in anti-drunk driving tech, but until then, we have to do what we can.

I'm not a fan of the Seattle Fire Department still putting out info on the old platform, but even more bizarre is what they chose to report there. A fire in an underground utility vault yes, an adult and child getting hit by a speeding driver and transported directly to Harborview no.
