I’m reminded of watching two old ladies ask a teenage goth for directions and she politely told them and when she was out of earshot one lady said “You know where you are with a goth”
Things are Terrible, but this isn't.

Be weird.

And let’s not forget that the 1970s had 1950s nostalgia (Grease; Happy Days)
worth watching a movie set in the 1970s, like THE NICE GUYS, and comparing to a movie made in the 1970s, like DIRTY HARRY

But I think the important bit is in here. If it collapses, it will be because America irony-ed itself to death.

That’s the thing man. If they are to be taken at their word the only takeaway is that there should be no black people in any job any other white person wants. One quick Google search for any of these jobs would show there are usually one or two minorities are best in a unit of 20 or 30 or more.
UAlbany, one of those, NY state universities, has been hovering around 4 percent tenure track Black faculty since ever. I am THE Black tenure track political scientists. These folks are just little liars.
You’ll never guess who else experienced ‘racism’ on the job market despite their unimpeachable academic credentials.

I'm sharing this here, as I have on Facebook and Instagram, but there's no account on here to share from, and I just think this is wonderful.

A really good balance of design and implementation, and appears to achieve everything it set out to do, and it *SO* appeals to my inner 'work nerd'.

Great thread. And the point in the middle about what being strong means is so closely aligned to Trumpism you can see why he likes Putin.
On both right and left, there's anger about the recent assessments of Russia's threat to the UK and the rest of Europe, and about the need for us to prepare to meet it. There's a lot I could say here (as my students know), but most of it boils down to two things. 🧵

We should just tear it down and put a new one in.

It's peak British state to list the thing and for it to then cost too much to actually repair it.

Listening to a discussion about Jane Austen and remembering that it’s not new for women to find many men unappealing marriage prospects.

What’s changed is they now have the option not to bother.

So depressing to think we have people who want to go back to that time

Classic Leftist tactics. Talking to people and quoting them.

So cunning!
She interviewed with Vanity Fair 11 times and they quoted her extensively from those interviews.

This illustrates two of our besetting problems as a nation

1: The costs that come from an accumulation of history - stuff we love but don’t want to pay for. This leaves a bunch of stuff to crumble.
People complain about using the chemical toilet at church (our main toilet is broken and we can't afford the extremely expensive archeology required to fix it), and I'm like... Some volunteers will have to lug this across the city to empty and clean it. We are doing our best. Stop complaining.

This is the crux and why gung-ho "abundance" and tech accelerationism is a disaster. We need mastery not surrender.
