I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. This is nothing new, people were doing this with Onion articles, tabloids, and North Macedonian agitprop (including doubling down when called on it) for decades.

Even here, it was common for people to say "but that it's believable tells you something, right?"

Remember, this is how much it has cooked people’s brains after like one year. Think of what 10 years of this will do. Think of the brains of kids who will grow up not only unable to spot AI but unable to understand “real” and “AI generated” as two different concepts.

I have to wonder, though, whether the struggles on "other outcomes" are directly related to the success on integration, in the "people are only okay with sharing _this_ much with newcomers so public goods suck" sense

Anglo "live & let live" integration is demonstrably more successful than French style "aggressive assimilationism" at producing integrated societies, and has been proven to do so in multiple Anglo jurisdictions in (literally) multiple hemispheres! That means that in order to durably expand your empathy in any real way you have to put up some internal roadblocks against indulging in cruelty *even when that cruelty is objectively harmless*. You kind of have to be a bit of a joyless scold here because that's one of only two stable equilibria.

Something that got almost universally elided from Woke v1 is that being cruel is viscerally rewarding. It feels really good in a pre-rational sort of way. And, paired with the hedonic treadmill, the natural tendency is for any "safe" outlet for cruelty to erode whatever borders we place around it.

This is one of my favorite takes. I’m sure people would love a 30-day delay on having their images posted so they can be reviewed by hand and also it’s Good Actually to make humans look at some of the most heinous images in existence all day

The Bluesky Head of Trust & Safety admitting that all posted images are processed through an Al autolabeller that presumably employees have no access to or control over? (And probably steals every image to be used in an Al "art" generator, who knows?)
Seriously, this is outrageously irresponsible.

well this makes them signing Reguilon for next year make way more sense, though as much as I love him I'm not sure he's much better as a defensive LB than 2025 Alba. There's a reason nobody has signed him in three months as a free agent!
