Not begging for infrastructure is actually incredibly underrated. I haven't been to a public meeting, written a specific non-form letter to a councillor, and new stuff just gets built where it makes sense.
I LOVE that my city, Victoria, BC, Canada, keeps building out its protected bike lane network. This means:
1. We can get around easily, safely, and joyfully, avoiding the burden of car ownership
AND
2. We don’t have to spend endless hours begging the city for safe infrastructure. #yyj

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

Picked the kiddo up from preschool by bike on Thurs and Fri, for the first time since November. Didn't tell him I was going to. We stepped out the door of his school and he squealed "BIKE!!!" in excitement as soon as he saw.

4-year-olds agree: best way to travel.

This is significant.
Canada is the only non-European country to sign on to a program that allows access for low-interest loans for the joint procurement of military gear and weapons. It gives Canadian companies access to bid on European projects.

Wtf 😒
UPDATE: after four hours of hearing from the public last night, it got past midnight, and council decided to delay their vote until the end of February.

because when you’ve been waiting 19 years to build a school, what’s another two weeks?
Tonight, Vancouver council will have a public hearing for a school 19 years in the making

There's some community opposition to the project — but there's also the bigger question of why it takes the provincial and municipal governments 19 years to approve a single school

Drivers: If you're waiting for a cyclist to pass so you can come out of a side road, edging forward is a great way to slow the cyclist down since it signals to them that you're not in full control of your car and that they need to be extra careful.

Finland held an Olympic hockey practice in Milan. He's the only one who showed up.
With the NHL players still an ocean away, Finnish defenceman Mikko Lehtonen found himself with plenty of open ice.

When you remove through-traffic from city centres, everyone wins. Cafés get more trade, kids can cycle safely, walking feels relaxed, homes are quieter, and streets become places people actually want to spend time. Design for people and cities come alive.
