Can confirm, and I can confirm that this is true way outside Minneapolis or even the Twin Cities metro.
people not in MN cannot comprehend how hating ICE is now a core cultural component of being Minnesotan. it’s babe the big blue ox, loons, hot dish, and ICE OUT NOW

Just something deeply wrong when a government cannot follow processes and values that most human beings would deem minimally acceptable.
Metry and her husband of 4 years go to DHS to get their I-130 in motion. "Good news" a DHS employee told them, the form to start her naturalization was approved.

DHS employee asks the husband to follow him through a secure door. When it locks behind him, ICE detains his wife to deport her.
EXCLUSIVE: Terez Metry was 13 when her family fled to Tennessee from Egypt in 2011. Then, they left her behind. She only recently discovered she had an order of removal from 2011. But she was following the legal path to citizenship. On Monday, at a routine DHS meeting, Metry was detained.

If I was a Democratic politician I would consider that the thousands of brave patriots in this city are America’s most visible and hardened cohort of anti-Trump resisters, and if you tell them you’re going to stand with ICE, they will never care about anything else you ever do again
Minneapolis has real Boston 1775 vibes lately. No surprise that John Adams—a moderate farmer and lawyer, yet the principal agitator for independence—was radicalized against the English crown by its Eye of Sauron-like brutality against his city.
If you see what ICE is doing to my city and you’re still protecting it, you are the enemy and we will not forgive or forget you.

Eliminating ICE is the modern equivalent of opposing the Iraq War, and right now there are two types of Democrats: those who can see where the ball is moving and go to it, and those who will be swept away because they refused to do so.
“I would rather you vote for what is morally correct,” Davidson said.

“Don’t talk to me about my own morality,” DeLauro shot back.

“Don’t tell your constituents what they can and can’t talk to you about,” replied Rev. Nathan Empsall. “What you are voting for is not moral.”

I cannot stand the "this is a good start" discourse. The Democrats in Congress do not want to abolish ICE. They have proposed a series of bog-standard reforms regurgitated by a think tank. Everyone knows they do not work. The Democrats supporting this do not care. They just want to move on.

feeling sad must hit incredibly hard for a rich guy. Imagine thinking you can buy your way out of anything but you feel like dogshit on some random day. You think feeling bad is for poor people. This is why you should always find what a rich person hates about themselves and pick until it bleeds

So spot on. Dems are going to miss the opportunities of this moment to save the Republic.
Dems need to abandon the idea, fed to them by certain commentators, that Trump's 2024 win represented a durable cultural shift against immigration. It's blinding them to the possibilities of this moment.

I really don’t understand why democrats are afraid to challenge the journalists who reflexively lied for Trump by proclaiming he had a new tone on minneapolis. You get asked to do interviews all the time, just start them by saying “do you still think trump is using a new tone” and make them answer

whoever figures out a way to bundle independent journalism subscriptions will be a hero
i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.
A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.

Do you hear the people sing?
In Minneapolis, people are literally singing resistance before marching to the hotels where ICE agents are staying—inviting them to defect and join us in solidarity. It’s an action rooted in compassion, courage, and collective humanity. Transforming fear into shared power.

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...
