I think there's a point where you are so angry that you run out of mental space for fear, and I think a lot of Minneapolis and St. Paul were there, today.
I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

In a sense, the point is that the lie is obvious. If the situation were more ambiguous, defending the shooter wouldn't send as clear a signal. They're telling ICE "you will be protected even in clear cut cases of cold-blooded murder, at least if the victim is considered an undesirable."
Like those before it, that insane, vile DHS statement about the Minneapolis shooting isn't about covering anything up. It's performative lying.
