Hi, new followers!

You may know me under other names (none dead but most of them sleeping.) I do online community - I've worked in MMOs, at Metafilter (as restless_nomad) and currently do PA work for SF writers. (DM me for rates!)

Stand by for cat pics and rants about the internet. Welcome!
This is an interesting convo between @maxgladstone.bsky.social and @djangowexler.bsky.social about, among other things, the publishing industry, and it brings up an angle - the bestseller being a market correction - that is my personal explanation for the romantasy phenomenon. (1/2)

There are a couple I'd prefer not to (sardines, black licorice) and a couple more I probably wouldn't order (oysters, blue cheese) but my wife refers to me as a trash compactor with good reason. (This list avoids my actual weakness, bitter vegetables, quite thoroughly.)
7 for me how about y’all ?

Heh, this should be interesting. Day one: Final Fantasy. I rented it a few times before I scraped together enough quarters to buy it. It is 100% grooved into my brain, to the point that I play it in my head to fall asleep sometimes.
I saw this and thought it would be fun, so here we go!

This was the basis of my (undoubtedly stoned) extended explanation to my long-suffering wife why baseball was the right game to make blaseball out of.
*hits blunt harder*
Baseball= turn based
Football = turn based
Soccer= real time
Hockey = real time
Basketball = real time
*hits blunt*
bowling and curling are the same game just with two different battle systems
curling = turn based
bowling = real time

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

We have had three herding dogs over the last ten years, all of which should have Had A Job, and yet two of them were Dipshits and one of them routinely Picked Fights With God.
No matter the breed, every dog has one of three default dispositions:

1. Dipshit
2. Has a Job
3. Trying to Pick a Fight with God

My actual dad's favorite movie was Father of the Bride. Followed, iirc, by Dumb and Dumber.

So, uh, this category is a little opaque to me.
What’s everyone’s favorite dad movie

Hey folks!

Due to a series of unforeseen expenses, I need to raise some cash before royalty season rolls around at the beginning of April. Because of that, I am going to do something I don't usually do and offer paid mentoring sessions for aspiring writers.

Hot take: The "Phantom Tollbooth" characters King Azaz and his brother, the Mathemagician, are prefigured by two 9th century Byzantine intellectuals, Patriarch John VII, known as John the Grammarian, and his cousin, the archbishop of Thessalonica known as Leo the Mathematician.

I have fished my gross old tub overflow cover out of the trash because the new shiny one just doesn't seal right. Here's to vaguely unclean but deep-enough baths!

The main damage I walked away from game dev with is that I enthusiastically read patch notes and roadmap posts about MMOs that I no longer play.

We are going to keep donating money for as long as you all keep buying jewelry.

... Viv has added more jewelry because you have been so generous in supporting our neighbors and friends in Minnesota. 😄 I'm really thrilled. Keep going, and we will too.
Because you've been so generous I've had to restock the shop! Everything's still 25% off through 1/24. I'll donate that 25% off to one of the organizations at www.standwithminnesota.com, and @byzantienne.bsky.social will match it dollar for dollar. Go check it out!

Viv has put all of her gorgeous jewelry shop on sale to raise funds for Minneapolis mutual aid.

I will match whatever she raises. All the money will go to organizations listed at www.standwithminnesota.com.

it's a small thing we can do to help a community we love, but it's a thing.
Bleeding Hart Studio is back with a store-wide sale/fundraiser for Minneapolis mutual aid!

Everything including 5 all-new necklaces in www.etsy.com/shop/Bleedin... is 25% off until 1/24. I'll donate that 25% off to at least one of the organizations at www.standwithminnesota.com --
