In this case it also provides an unregulated communication medium for insider information that is untraceable. E.g., you can use Polymarket to effectively give out information on stocks that you wouldn't normally be allowed to give.
diacriticaz.bsky.social
Inside trading is frankly less of a big deal than the fact that governance token holders get to decide the results of a bet if there's a dispute, and can simply vote that they were right if enough of them took the losing side.

Things you can say about protests or about sex parties

a fun thing that happens if you are +very+ docile, pliant and doll-like is that your lack of struggle actually loops back around to making them so angry/worked up/intrigued that they start to work you over like you're actually resisting very hard just to get a bigger reaction

I don't even think Newsom would argue against this, he'd say "yeah, you got a puppy and a voter in mind?"

i love this website actually

Gavin Newsom would take a puppy from an orphan, rip the puppy apart with his bare hands and eat it while the orphan screamed if he thought it would win him one vote in Wisconsin.

Oregon's stubborn resistance to Texas National Guard troops invading reflects the elitist and closed-minded belief that the people of Portland have nothing to learn from the people of Texas

Yeah basically this. I've gone from "eh they're probably covering up something that's not nearly as bad as people think" to believing there has to be major dirt in there.

I was a skeptic about the import of the Epstein files.

But 3 invasions of cities, one military buildup outside Venezuela, a government shutdown, and so many other things meant to distract have me convinced whatever’s in there is the biggest presidential scandal in U.S. history.

At a glance, I would say yellow.

Ezra Klein voice: "Say what you will about Kangmin Lee, he is doing politics right. We may have to concede that, at least in some states, women will have the right to vote stripped away from them, and I don't know why the Democrats refuse to run anti-suffrage candidates."

THIS SHOULD BE THE MESSAGE, not some wonky shit. Republicans have shut down the government, and can unilaterally open it at any time. Look at why they'd want it shut down.

Raskin: "It's not lost on anyone that shutting the government down allows them not swear in our new colleague, Ms Grijalva from Arizona, who would be the 218th signature to discharge the Epstein files and to put a vote on that on the House floor."

Right now the question before the Democratic party seems to be, do you want to protect the rights of the marginalized, or do you want to compromise those in order to make headway on technocratic goals. But no one will put it that way.
diacriticaz.bsky.social
Absolutely. The admin has shown over and over that it is not possible to cave in sufficiently. In fact, in the usual manner of bullies, when you cave you become a target. Institutions that fight back have been seeing them back off because they are looking for easy wins.

(for clarity, I'm including Hossenfelder in "kooks")
diacriticaz.bsky.social
Yeah, as far as big channels go, there's stuff like SciShow, but that's just pop science. There are not a lot of people in the space that Hossenfelder is in, talking about things like cutting edge physics, who aren't basically kooks.

Angela Collier does a great job. Smaller channel but she doesn't seem at all tempted to start grifting.

The Charlies Kirk of the world, the Trumps et al, do not want or intend to compromise, they want surrender if not annihilation from the people that Ezra Klein is admonishing to give up stuff so he won't have to.

Klein wants "us" to compromise by which he means marginalized groups should go along so that people like him can get along. Because Klein is terrified, because for once white supremacy threatens him. Coates *does not have compromise on offer*.
diacriticaz.bsky.social
I really think this gets at the meat of the problem, and what Klein is too smart to bring up but knows he's glossing over when talking to Coates here, or trying to compromise on women's rights. Compromise is a thing that fascism and white supremacy afford to Klein and not Coates.

It's not true that liberalism will always side with fascism, but Klein and Sunstein are great demonstrations of how some strains talk themselves into supporting fascism. I also think Klein is personally afraid that he's a target if it becomes normalized to shoot pundits.
