I think we’ve got better and more culturally-varied street food than I could have imagined, cool jackets galore, and drugs that make us think we’re really fast and strong before they kill us.
we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

Spent part of the weekend binging this show from 1972.

There's just one season but it's one of the (if not the very) first live action "monster of the week" type shows. (Gotta give credit to Scooby-Doo!) It's influence is in everything from X-Files to Buffy The Vampire Slayer to The Dresden Files.

Students know what’s up. This sharp seventh grader raises the obvious question about what teacher use of AI implies for student usage.

I have never blocked more people replying to a single post than I have for this one.

Way too many people drink the hate Kool-Aid about women in Star Wars, in front and behind the camera.

Is every SW project perfect? No. But they’re hella fun. And Kennedy deserves a ton of credit and respect.

Obviously there’s narrative utility in Nazi comparisons but more and more I feel like we should be talking in these terms as well, and forcing elected Dems to grapple with the very real parallels

Sounds like a proposition worthy of serious consideration… says this lifelong Californian. 🧐
More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland.

They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

A look at the new Galaxy’s Edge comic book covers from Marvel. This series will detail Batuu’s history and connection to Luke, Vader, Leia, & Han in the OT era.

Apparently it will also include a Mandalorian & Grogu movie tie-in story.

I saw a video over on Threads of ICE snagging a young guy and when it turned out he was a citizen, they just dumped him somewhere randomly and threw his stuff (wallet, etc.) out of the car on the ground before they left.
this crystallizes why, despite truly heroic solidarity and activism, i can’t quite get in the “we’re going to win” mindset right now. the harm is so active and there’s so much violence we don’t even know about. people are being turned into ghosts.

Okay, I'm trying to work out this timeline in my head.

In the OT, the time during which Han isn't in carbonite _and_ Luke is wearing black and is a more skilled Jedi is entirely within Return of the Jedi.

So... they'll have to squeeze the Batuu lore in somewhere between Jabba and Endor?

People in my shitty rural hometown spend all their time taking about how people who live in my city are, like, demons. They just say it! Out loud! Imagine if I talked that way about them.
I feel pretty misunderstood by people living in rural areas, and yet mysteriously, this isn’t considered a problem.

I’m sick of putting up with this idiotic display of obeisance to chucklefucks simply because they live in rural areas.
Republicans control all 3 branches of government. Even when they don't, both parties pump out constant rhetoric about "real Americans" living in rural areas.

The entire premise of this article is a conservative-fluffing myth. Cities have more political power because that's where most people live!

There’s a video I saw recently interviewing a guy at a Minnesota protest where the interviewer starts to ask “are you worried this could take us to a dark pla—“ and the guy explodes, “we’re already in the dark place! Look around! They’re murdering us! We’re already here!”
