However, Stalin had grown increasingly frantic as news of German forces advancing into Stalingrad kept arriving at Stavka. At 2230hrs on 3 September, he sent a telegram (Stavka Order No. 170599) to Zhukov and Eremenko, stating:
The situation at Stalingrad has worsened. The enemy is situated 3km from Stalingrad. He can take Stalingrad today or tomorrow unless the Northern Group of Forces renders immediate assistance. Demand the commanders of the forces standing north and north-west of Stalingrad attack the enemy immediately and go to the assistance of the Stalingraders. No sort of delay is permissible. Procrastination now is equivalent to a crime.

W samym artykule jest jeszcze lepsza koncentracja salwy dla 6 cali u Japończyków. 8 cali mogło za to być lepsze dla wsparcia ogniowego desantu, chociaż pewnie dyskusyjna kwestia, czy lepiej więcej, czy mocniej, w takiej sytuacji. Ogólnie 6 vs 8 to był wtedy budzący silne emocje temat.

True, but ranges for both guns are beyond what even radar controlled fire could have managed at the time against moving targets.

Paradox of WW2 light and heavy cruisers (here Japanese ones): 6 in. guns could fire faster and more of them could be mounted, so light cruisers have a larger broadside per minute (or DPS in modern video game speak), than heavy cruisers with 8 in. guns. Penetration is the only advantage for heavies.

[Budyonny (who commanded one of the fronts in Caucasus in 1942) and Stalin created a cavalry army (Konarmia) in 1919-Stalin even lost his baggage when this formation was defeated during Polish-Bolshevik war. Idea of creating a new cavalry army must have been „like in the old times” moment for them.]
