One thing I have noticed is a dramatic reduction in the number of people walking or jogging on Balboa Dr since they crowded it with more parking and increased the speed limit from 15 to 25.

Wish park institutions cared as much about pedestrian safety and experience as much as free parking.
Just go to the park, it’s a dramatic reduction of attendance. Ask anyone working there. It’s dramatic.

The arrogance of people who tell others what clothes and headgear they should wear doing daily things like cycling to the shop is unreal.

And none of them willing to wear high-vis or helmets in their cars "if it saves one life".

Anything, but safer streets, and enforcement of existing laws.

Great example of windshield bias. Cars do kill more pedestrians than bikes, even on sidewalks.
Not on footpaths, they’re not.

When you vote to protect urban space for cars, you are voting to deprive yourself of this type of environment.
At the current pace, it will take 400 years to build out Seattle's sidewalk network, but with home zones and shared streets, we have an opportunity to dramatically accelerate safer residential streets at a much lower cost.

History repeating itself?

UKIP under Nigel Farage controlled Thanet Council and nearly bankrupt it.

Reform UK under Nigel Farage controls Worcestershire Council and it’s on the verge of bankruptcy.

Never trust Reform UK. Imagine a country run by them. We'd be bankrupt with Trussite policies.

This is absolutely spot on. Although I’d add public and environmental health teams because transport also causes environmental health harms from air pollution & noise.
I can only talk anecdotally, but having a a commute that could be walked or cycled made a huge difference to my physical and mental health.

Local authorities *must* involve their public health teams when making transport decisions.

These individuals are either tolerated when endangering others or given several chances to address their behaviour.

Any instance where a driver is proven to intentionally endanger others I.e. brake checking, driving towards peds, should result in an automatic lifetime ban.

Lower limits on Cork’s streets “will take many decades” if the public does not send a clear message to Cork City Council
Members of the public in Cork City are being asked to get behind the wider adoption of 30km/h speed limits in the city, campaigners have said. The move to set 30km/h speed limits in cities and towns was delayed when the Government abandoned a system that would have made 30km/h the base limit for urban areas. The new system of councils rolling out the lower limits has started.

🧵Spotted on a Very Hot Market Day in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A woman (60s?) suddenly stops and plucks at the seam of her undies through her shorts.
Her partner laughs, asking: "Ya right there?"
She nods. "Yep. We've all got bums. I just had my knickers riding up mine. Happens to the best of us." (1)

There's a stark difference bw the existence of a bike lane & whether it's rideable. The bike lanes on our campus are so bumpy I get migraines and rattle my bike so much my chain has fallen off. So, sorry to the drivers, but I ride in the car lane. This is infrastructure's fault, not the bikers'.

Facebook launched 22 years ago this week.

In 2025, Meta paid an effective federal tax rate of 3.5% — its lowest on record.

Meanwhile, Meta is pumping at least $65 million into super PACs to stifle regulation of AI and tech.

Trickle-down economics isn't just a hoax, it's corrosive to democracy.

What it means to live in a walkable community: you realise that you have no milk left for your afternoon cup of tea. You stroll down the road to your local shop, getting some milk and some fresh air in the process. 10 minute round trip, happy days.

Always nice when you’re driving along, being ever attentive and an idiot motorist suicide dives across your lane, causing you to brake, all so they can save a couple of seconds and park against the flow of traffic 🤦‍♂️

On every journey you make, you will witness bad driving.
