To be clear, this is "unsustainable" in the sense of financially unsustainable increase in cost to the individual.

Public transport is far more sustainable in virtually every other sense but if you depend on it (through choice or necessity) you get treated like shit.

Gove has been an extremely poisonous influence on our politics. Undermining expert consensus on Brexit [had enough of experts, etc] and lying his way through the whole process in the aftermath of the Referendum. A travesty that he is on this panel of judges assessing political writing.
I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

Ok, so I paused on each image and can't see any evidence of AI, thankfully. It's so annoying we need to bloody double-check.
I love that this seems like it can't be real, but they really are doing it! All the school streets are now either cut off entirely from cars, or about to be. I'm so jealous.

Anderson Cooper: So it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?

Answer: Yes, we’re paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing… #HousingFirst

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

I did RRTY (Randonneur Round the Year) a couple of years ago. Winter can be... challenging!

IIRC, the same year, @onetwotony.bsky.social did one of his rides on ice spikes, as it was -6ºC and rather icy up by Kielder. THAT'S hardcore.
"Damn, it was cold. I think it’s maybe the coldest conditions I’ve ridden in in the UK. There was ice in my beard. My bottles turned to slush, valves froze. Not that I was sweating out a lot of water that I needed to replenish, luckily. I think I got through a bottle and a half in twelve hours."

I've long suggested that as most filling stations have ANPR cameras, that automated MOT/Insurance/tax checks be performed before dispensing fuel.

IMO it is no different to me being aged checked when buying drugs/knives/alcohol/glue/fags at the local supermarket.

2.50°C by 2045
2.85°C by 2050

Of course, a lot of non-linearities are possible before 2050. Like a net-zero, carbon-free, sustainable vegan utopia. Or the other ...
