🧵 I hear we’re swearing off shopping on Black Friday. I want to propose people shop Black owned businesses. Keep the money circulating in our community, micro reparations for non-Black ppl.

I’m adding Black owned businesses I frequent, please feel free to add your own. LFG.

Perhaps the most protest/resistance country star would be Johnny Cash. And the best song is The Man in Black.

So, protest/resistance music. I started a thread that I’ll add to (hopefully) of metal protest/resistance music.

There are so many excellent protest songs, across generations and genres.

This 🧵 is country, cuz I’ve heard a few bangers recently.

Sadly, I know. That’s my white side. It’s the biggest lie of my childhood. I get it. Just wish people could do the learning and apply that to their lives.

Right? They need a checklist, a “honey do” list, something. And clearly, this person who is specifically not addressing this basic question is waiting for someone to direct them to that checklist. But, like others have said, they’ve had over 400 years to prepare. So, 🤷🏽‍♀️

Don’t forget the book lists. They really like reading lists. As if learning can become knowledge without action - just like how they planned to take care of racism from the start, a little bit of learning but little action.

This must a be a first. A laughable embarrassing first. I’m enjoying this too much. The layers of irony are just, 💋

Omg! Same! The way I cackled! I’ll take whatever little glimmers of joy I can in these mean streets. The final decision in a rap battle actually made it to the courts. The court of public opinion already decided Drake is a giant loser. Now, we got confirmation. 😂
drxyan.bsky.social
This probably made me happier than it should.

In the dictionary, they could just use Drake’s image to illustrate the word ‘loser’.

Anyways, back to the drudgery of everything sucking all at one, all the time.

Find joy where you can.

This one isn’t necessarily protest music but it is to me and it has gotten super heavy rotation in my playlist since the election.

I was raised by hippies, so protest/resistance music is kinda one of my special interests.

I’ve been thinking of creating a protest/resistance music thread. Don’t know how committed I am to that, so I’ll see how it goes.

For now, here’s one of my faves.

When country artists start making resistance songs, I gotta feel a little more hope that some of the cult members will start waking up.

I’ve been searching my brain for the right words. Thank you for naming it. Cuz, yeah. That’s it.

Learning only becomes knowledge through action.

What have you learned in the last decade or so that you have put into action?

How so?
drxyan.bsky.social
I’m most concerned with our surviving and thriving. And if that gets people bent out of shape, that’s a them problem. Seems ever single group in this country can have a preference for their own except us. Wonder why that is. 🤔

One of my good friends says, that when a Black trans woman can walk down the street, free from harassment and violence, we’ll know we’ve reached equity. The only thing I’d add to that is to make this fictional person Black, trans, disabled, and low income - I might add immigrant. But I digress.

Black issues are human rights issues. Black issues are NOT niche issues. We’ve fought for the rights and liberties of every single group. Every one.

While I’m concerned for everybody, my energy, talents, and focus are centered on Black people and our full liberation, across every intersectionality

A few months ago I said I didn’t care who was mayor of nyc. I lost followers who demanded I care

I checked to see if they’d tweeted about California’s prop 50 and how my state is trying to counter Texas gerrymandering & disenfranchisement of Black voters.

Omg! The egret came back to our little pond! I’m so excited. And the heron was there too. He stalked the egret for a quick minute, then they both went to their sides of the pond. Gorgeous birds.

What always gets me, is every family reunion or when telling family stories, there’s always at least one cousin who had some childhood disease that one summer, who now has a cognitive or physical disability or died. A disease that we now have safe vaccines to prevent. But even that is too much.

I keep hearing a bunch of whiny white farmers who can’t sell their soybeans to China. Some are feeling it. But not enough of them have been hit with the full weight of it yet.
drxyan.bsky.social
I mean, the literacy rates in this country have been declining, the average reading age is 6th grade, people can’t name the 3 branches of government, don’t know how elections work. It might be asking too much for them to learn history. Idk. We might be asking too much from people who just can’t.
drxyan.bsky.social
Yup. Might change how they see their memaw and pawpaw and thereby, their own inheritances and mediocrity. Can’t have that.
