In my class discussion this week, I was very impressed with the way my students wanted to emphasize human rights and make sure that the attention Good’s and Pretti’s murders did not crowd our attention to the other people ICE has killed this month.
ICE has killed 9 folks in the first 26 days of ‘26:

• Alex Pretti
• Renee Good
• Keith Porter
• Heber Sanchaz Domínguez
• Victor Manuel Diaz
• Parady La
• Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz
• Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres
• Geraldo Lunas Campos

They all deserve justice. And for us to remember their names.

Senate Dems are "united" around these 3 flacid reforms.

People outside Senate chambers are "united" around 3 real things:

1) ICE should be abolished
2) Government officials who kill innocent civilians should face justice
3) Government officials who protect killers from justice should go to jail
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

Here's hoping that Sam Altman continues praising Donald Trump, that his remarks are widely disseminated, and that all those using or considering using ChatGPT hear them.
"President Trump is a very strong leader, and I hope he will rise to this moment and unite the country." Such a courageous statement from Sam Altman to OpenAI employees.

Today is a day to remember the millions of Jews, Queer people, dissidents, communists, and disabled people killed by Nazi atrocities.

The Holocaust was in many ways a singular tragedy, but remembering it affords many lessons for our struggles to make a world free from fascism and racism.

I am. But there are three things at play here regarding ICE collecting private data. Quick rundown on the issue, why you should be paying attention, and what I'm doing about it:
So which politician is calling for the dismantling of the probably illegal database that ice & this government is collecting biometric data of protesters?

Congressional Republicans gave Trump a slush fund for ICE and CBP in the "Big Beautiful Bill." Tens of billions of dollars that is still usable even during a shutdown.

Democrats must make rescinding that money the price of any future govt funding, as Republicans did with IRS money from the IRA.

Pretty much the whole of American society is held together with duct tape, most of which is there to fix problems caused because legislators chose tax cuts over public goods.

And most of American culture is people fighting about which minoritized group should get the blame.
This is because our elected officials haven't been helping with any of our institutions for years except the military and law enforcement. Schools, libraries and other public services have been held together by immense amounts of volunteer labor and community funding.
All of this happened with basically no help from elected officials of the opposition party. This was entirely the people.

The welfare kings of the oil and gas industry get enough of our money already.

No mas.
We'll have more on Minnesota in a moment but this shouldn't get lost: despite the protestations, oil companies are fine with extracting crude from Venezuela as long as the U.S. government guarantees the profits. Those guarantees are in motion, writes @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social.
Venezuelan Oil Revitalization: Paid For With Your Taxes - The American Prospect
The biggest oil companies will immediately profit off Trump’s Venezuela coup, including via American taxpayers’ money.

I just want both teams’ urbanist mayors @wutrain.bsky.social & @mayorofseattle.bsky.social to make some sort of sweet transit oriented bet on the Super Bowl. Winner gets a lifetime CharlieCard or ORCA Card?
I’m not the biggest sports fan but it would be nice if the Seahawks could give Mayor Wilson a Super Bowl win right out of the gate.

State violence against lawful citizens is downstream from the massive government investment in private prisons.

People are in the streets not just because they don’t want moms and nurses to be executed, but also because they don’t want their neighbors sent to concentration camps.
I’m at the Otay Mesa concentration camp in San Diego, where protesters and community organizers gather every Sunday.

When US citizens are abroad, the US government expects their inalienable rights to be upheld there. Freedom of speech should be the law of the land, not a law that protects only (some) citizens. It is a human right.
Mahmoud Khalil responded after a DHS official threatened deportation to Algeria, noting that he cannot legally be detained or deported because his appeals process is still ongoing. In a televised interview last night, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin had said, “It looks like he’ll go to Algeria...

Grounds for Bondi’s impeachment
include:

-Failure to make public the Epstein files

-Attempting to use ICE violence against the government of MN to meddle in state elections

-Refusing to allow local law enforcement officials access to the scenes of Good’s and Pretti’s murders

This is the way. Any 2028 Dem candidates need to start saying that on Day One: (1) all ICE agents fired; (2) pensions/benefits defunded; (3) forced to pay backpay as restitution to victims; and (4) only way to avoid prison is to become a cooperating informant
Maybe instead of identifying specific ICE agents who do particularly heinous things, we could just penalize everyone who was on payroll at the agency starting by a certain date.

🧵thread of right-wing reactions to the ICE murder this AM:
We are dealing with a Western Christian supremacist movement willing to see millions die in the name of racial purity. This is William Wolfe. A year ago he was invited with fourteen other faith leaders to the WH. Today he is praising ICE for killing peaceful observers. This is Christian fascism.

Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.
