Heh, Linus (Sebastien, of Linus Tech Tips) finally got up the courage to email Linus (Torvalds, of ... you know) and they just posted their collab video www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfv0... There is a *lot* of corny fanboi-ing but it's adorably earnest, much less cringe than I expected.

I just don't need to know what the Telegraph has written about Dungeons & Dragons. It's a newspaper for people who are frightened of samosas.

I actually saw it catch fire live-on-stream one year :-)
Happy Gävlebocken season! Every year since 1966, Gävle, Sweden, has erected a massive version of Scandinavia's traditional straw Yule goat. It is so attractive to vandals—particularly arsonists—that in the previous 59 years, only 17 goats have survived fully intact. Good luck in 2025, Gävlebocken!

Ooh, I hadn't considered *smiting* as a solution to the genAI problem, but it is sounding good...
Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’

This reminds me of the man who was asked, "Have you read every book in your library?" and replied, "No, and I have not opened every bottle in my wine cellar, either."

Amazing stories here; my personal worst was the oven failing to get above 250f or so... and then we noticed turning the thermostat knob caused the streetlight to go on and off :-) (The meal ended up fine with some help from the neighbors.)
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

19th-century pieces of wood are forcing a ‘huge’ train shutdown in Boston. MBTA officials explain why
MBTA leaders shared more details with MassLive about why they are shutting down a broad section of the Green Line through the heart of Downtown Boston for half of December.

Ooh, the first edition of "Century of the Typewriter" by Wilfred Beeching (1974) is on archive.org! Probably still in copyright in the UK, but Beeching died in 2000 and I *urgently* need to read more about Italian hydraulic typewriters of the Mussolini era than is in my abridged 1990s edition ...

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

New England looks like it will be partly cloudy tonight but given how last night looked it's worth popping your head out anyway (and give it a chance with your phone even if you don't see anything naked-eye.)
If all the aurora photos are giving you unbearable FOMO, it may please you to know that there’s a possibility for more lights tonight (Wed. 12 Nov), possibly right after sunset in North America. We’ll see how this next CME (coronal mass ejection) impact plays out!

crazy how much this bugs me now that someone pointed it out. if i worked at the white house, i would find this ugly, but not as annoying as i do now. ignorance is really bliss bc they more you learn, the more you just walk around thinking "collar gap" and "kerning is off."
