Meta thinks now is a great time to launch facial recognition surveillance tech in their creepy glasses because EFF will be too distracted by fascism to notice.

We noticed.

Seven Billion Reasons for Facebook to Abandon its Face Recognition Plans
Meta’s analysis that it can avoid scrutiny by releasing a privacy invasive product during a time of political crisis is craven and morally bankrupt. It is also dead wrong.

Tinney's art (and 1970s-1980s Byte itself) was symbolic, to me, of an age of learning - much more "somebody built some cool shit" and much less "this is a primary mechanism of the economy". (and they were all just Very Clever :-)

Finally got an air fryer (after Project Farm did some thorough benchmarking, but mostly because it makes it a lot easier to casually add bacon to things :-) The "it's just a convection oven" dismissal, while mostly fair, misses a couple of things:

My birdcams are all inside windows, this might be a reason to finally do proper outdoor installation of at least one...
shifted my bird-listening & detecting over to Birdnet-Go from Birdnet-Pi, for a better interface & ability to add my Unifi outdoor cameras as audio streams and it's just told me it's heard a tawny owl, which sounds kind of amazing for west London. @levparikian.bsky.social, is it likely to be right?

It's true it seems, with no warning or explanation CIA simply discontinued and removed the World Factbook this week.

I imagine they'd say we have wikipedia now wo who needs it, but check the footnotes and see how many wiki entries get their data from the CIA factbook. Lots.
They closed the CIA World Factbook and deleted it entirely.

(I turned this into a goal of actually *using up* a particular fancy color pen set before getting any more and am now 2ish weeks into some daily drawing, so thanks for the inspiration!)
Use the materials you're hoarding.
Use that cute pen, the fancy tape, one of the 40 notebooks.
Draw with those alcohol markers before they dry up.

Art materials are meant to be used, not gather dusts.
