Last week, Mary Robichaux ousted Kurt Wilson as mayor of Roswell, Georgia. Robichaux is a Democrat who served in the State House, while Wilson is a Republican, and it shows in the map. In his single term, Wilson has been criticized by both liberals and conservatives over transparency.

I am not exaggerating when I say ICE functions as a terrorist organization in the Twin Cities. The goal seems to be to harass and frighten people (the ones who are lucky enough to not be abducted, at least) and it's deeply unsettling when you learn they're in your neighborhood.

Yes. My theory of the moment is Miller/Vance thought their view that immigrants threaten social solidarity would be widely shared. But ICE raids are driving native-born Americans to show solidarity with immigrants quite courageously. Now Miller is trying to disrupt that alliance with state violence.
Insightful point here: Even if you take Trump seriously - he does not like the optics - they rested on an assumption that communities would welcome ICE as heroes, rather than showing the type of solidarity that Trump inherently cannot understand.
Trump is privately worried about the "optics" of ICE raids and his advisers are looking for ways to soften them, Axios reports. I'm calling bullshit: The terror and violence cannot be hived off from the broader policy agenda. They are 100% intrinsic to it.

The autobiography concludes its section on this conversation interestingly:

"I [Harry Belafonte] felt as if our moorings were unhinging. "Damn, Martin! If that's what you think, what would you have us do?" I asked.
He gave me a look. "I guess we're just going to have to become firemen.""

the famous quote is from the end of his reply to Young. from the middle:

"...we live in a failed system. Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level."

It’s propaganda for their base. That’s why they’ve been focusing on blue states.
The political point of all this, in Minneapolis and elsewhere, is to distract the Republican base from the fact that Trump cannot actually deport 14 million people as he promised. Terror and violence against some immigrants and their liberal allies is an entertaining substitute for the impossible.
Not gonna quote tweet Bouie, but he is illuminating something I was also wondering: what is the actual goal of Miller and ICE in Minneapolis beyond terror and violence? Cleansing the Somali community? Running every immigrant out of town? Turning the city into a ghost town? None of this will happen
