Wear bright clothing. Use the crosswalk. Look both ways. It doesn’t matter.
Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations.

If you're 45, that number is 74.7%.

If you're under 28, the number is 100%.

Happy Labor Day.

I have spent three whole days in Montreal and holy smokes Calgary could be soooo much better. An incredibly functional and connected system, well graded, contra painted lines on one ways, so many car-free spaces, and so many people using them. I have possibly seen more bikes than cars. 🚲🚶‍♀️

Motorist and pedestrian collisions and fatalities are at an 11-year high in Calgary (pedestrian deaths were up by 225% year-over-year in 2024).

It’s not inevitable, doesn’t have to be this way.
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

I often find myself along the Memorial adjacent pathways at commute time, and it’s so easy to feel like everyone in this city drives. Today I found myself sitting near the Prince’s Island bridge at 4:45 so I counted bikes for three minutes.

Yes, in Victoria there is a birthday party for bike lanes and it’s amazing.

I love seeing how well used infrastructure can be when it’s connected, safe and enjoyable to use.
