Librarians, heads up: there’s a guy calling libraries all over the US for English-Mandarin or Mandarin-English translations. He demands hours of librarian time, he becomes abusive, and he records these calls without permission. Might want to make a plan for dealing with him in case he calls you!

Dear mail-in voters,

If your state's return deadline is Election Day (Nov. 5), the U.S. Postal Service recommends that you mail your ballot by Tuesday (Oct. 29).

Sincerely,

Voters are advised to return their ballots early because of mail delay concerns
Election officials are raising concerns about the U.S. Postal Service's ability to handle this fall’s expected influx of election mail. But USPS say it’s ready to deliver the country’s ballots.

Across the nation, scores of quiet retired volunteers at polling stations are going to stare down red-faced men with guns (and win) but wapo's Tory import and Jeff Bezos don't wanna pay their taxes
one of the things i'm going to remember about this election we're going to win is going to be the abject cowardice of the nation's most powerful newspaper and magazine editors in the face of an existential threat, and how the average normie democratic voter showed far more stomach for the fight

It's going to be 87° here today, so I'm starting the workday by watching The Meg, a movie I've probably seen about 50 times. It's my official Start of Summer Movie.

The Massachusetts "millionaires tax" has vastly surpassed projections, bringing in more than $1.8 billion in revenue so far this fiscal year — with the prospect of a surplus of hundreds of millions of dollars to spend on transportation and education
State’s ‘millionaires tax’ has already generated $1.8 billion this year, blowing past state projections - The Boston Globe

We watched "Amélie" last night again and confirmed it's one of my top 10 movies of all time, brimming with subversive imagination from the first shot. This time two things hit different: 1) The subtext is #neurodiversity 2) It depicts a world before the resurgence of global Fascism. Wonderful film!

Not much of a beach day, but we went to try to find sea glass churned up by the high tide. Usually we find around 40 or so pieces, but today only 1.
