This painting suck in my head since the beginning of January, I sat and watched the Moon rise through the window. She went between two trees yet managed to find the one gap between them to still shine bright.

Sending you all lots of love and the clearest of skies!💜💫

Some joy for the darkness: Almost-8yo doesn't care that there's only 3/4in of sleet+snow and it's 20F, she's sledding on the almost flat driveway, dammit!

And a good lesson in seeing the possibilities when things aren't perfect.

Sorry to tangentialize this subject. An unvaccinated family with measles traveled from SC to WA state over the holidays. They went to a huge church, SeaTac ✈️, rode ferries, went to restaurants & an indoor trampoline park. As of yesterday, we now have an outbreak in my community because of it.

Want to get the data out of a PDF figure? As in, the actual data – not a rough trace-along-the-lines version?

I made an app you might like: adamkucharski.github.io/pdf2plot/

It all started a few years ago... 🧵

Years ago, an organizing crew I was part of worked to help an unhoused woman in our neighborhood get services. She was dying and qualified for a number of programs. It took a team of seven working for almost two months to secure her a warm bed to die in. Her name was Jennifer.
I know this isn’t new information but I just really gotta emphasize how goddamn difficult it is to successfully sign up for SNAP or Medicaid, even if you’re Good At Paperwork

Always use the mic at a conference even if you’re loud. People who can’t hear you *can’t hear you * when you ask if you can hear them in the back. Some of us went to one too many hardcore shows in our youth without ear plugs and our hearing ain’t what it used to be 🥺

Hey all, I reached out to the PO of my NIGMS MIRA to ask if the gov't shut down, and rescheduling of study sections, might allow for some accommodation to the standard rule that PIs cannot resubmit a MIRA while their MIRA (or other RPG) is under review (waiting in scores or summary statements) 🧪

Thoughts and prayers with Nuno Loureiro's family after he was killed in his home last night. It is shocking to lose any physicist of my generation because we are still relatively young, much less in this terribly violent way.

Beat the guns into plowshares.

Shot in the dark, but has anyone tried transfecting EOL-1 cells (using lentiviruses, electroporation, or otherwise) and succeeded? We’re having some issues with these cells but it seems to be very vector-specific. Would appreciate any insight/reposts.

Organelles do NOT have a single uniform pH.
And if you think they must, because “protons diffuse fast,” this paper is for you.
A thread on why that assumption is wrong; and what we found instead. 🧵 1/n

If you don't believe this can happen, women didn't have the legal right to have their own credit cards without needing a male co-signer until 1974, when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) was passed, a landmark law that made it illegal to discriminate in lending based on sex or marital status.
The regime is attempting to make it legal for banks and credit card companies to discriminate against women and minorities, making credit access harder. There's just 1 day left to comment. Reject this premise based on the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. Comment here: tr.ee/I9k7aFPzg3

As parents are helping their kids consider colleges, this is my perennial reminder that state schools often have lower price tags, yes, but private schools, including many small liberal arts schools, often have better aid packages, and are thus often cheaper in the end (but may be more competitive).
