New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Found a reddit video Platner posted along with description of his unit in Iraq being ordered to stop using mortars in high density urban areas.

He devised a method to use mk19 grenade launchers to evade detection by command.

"It wasn't the most accurate system" he says, but he still used it.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. Fair enough; I still feel like they are really s t r e t c h i n g to suggest that it’s unusual for English speakers to use aunt/uncle/cousin as catch-all terms that tell you more about the person’s generation than consanguinity.
