I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

Disabled people are part of the future.
We must and should imagine and dream of futures where disabled people don't just exist but are everywhere, as we should be.
This need to fix/cure all disability is a eugenicist dreaming, and we should want better for ourselves.

Right, another key thing that historians do is working with important records that have not been digitized.

And the vast majority of the world’s records *have not been digitized* and thus do not exist in any format that LLMs/AI can work with.
it's literally impossible for an LLM to do a historian's job

it's not even LLMs sucking it's that they need data input to do anything and where's that data supposed to be coming from without historians

never met a computer that can dig through a thousand year old book in a library

no, it simply isnt.
People are talking about capital using gAI as an excuse to conduct mass lay-offs, about students losing learning because theyre being lied to about gAI in education, about the mass theft of the work of artists and authors to train LLMs, about CSAM and nonconsensual sexual images.
The predominent anti-AI position on bsky is that AI is useless, fake, shit and basically the same as NFTs, destined to collapse in months once everyone sees how poor it is. So anyone who suggests that it could improve or be useful to any boss in any situation in the future must be evil.

The last few days:

Lost one cat. Took her to be cremated.

Heat went out in the apartment building at 10am yesterday. They're currently trying to find a part to fix it. Took my remaining cat to my partner's place because I was concerned about her getting too cold. I already lost 1 cat this week...

I'm going to do a thread of all the references and context behind Bad Bunny's performance and what it means for Puerto Ricans to see this on the biggest stage.

The opening title screen is a street mural in Puerto Rico that comes to life with footballs as coconuts.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

I came home from my run and my cat had died unexpectedly. Called mum, texted BF, broke down. He called me and said he was on his way and spent the rest of the night taking care of me. I need that so badly

I hope everyone has someone to take care of them when they're lost in grief

This trainwreck gets worse with every page, wowowow. This poor judge.

Moral of the story: for the love of all that is good, don't use AI to generate legal documents. And if you do and you're caught making stuff up, JUST TAKE THE L.
Hey, so, I don’t do civil litigation, is it generally considered good when the judge does this?
