New peak wind gust at NCAR Mesa Lab in Boulder, 113 MPH about 20 minutes ago. Stronger than the peak 108 MPH gust two days ago. Like the strongest gust at this station in 10+ years (even stronger than Marshall Fire gusts). #COWX

Students:
Can really distinguish between the smoke plumes and the front using spectrum width! Lots of turbulent flow along the boundary (hence the high variance in velocity). Lower spectrum with from the smoke since they are stemming from a point and drifting with the low-level mean wind.
