Elder advocate for the beautiful world I inherited but fear my great grandchildren will never get to see the beauty - all burned up and polluted with single-use plastics. Environmental degredation makes me so sad. But I love to grow food and flowers.

It is SO irritating to walk or bike past a chained-off stairway or bridge with a "not winter maintained" sign on it that went up on schedule on November 1st, with temperatures around 5C and absolutely not a flake of snow on the ground
Civil disobedience in Ottawa - the NCC closes off stairs everywhere because of course no one wants to walk in winter, right?

And the barriers go up on when someone’s calendar says they go up, irrespective of whether there is actually snow on the ground.

Let people go at their own risk.

We're still light on the details, as the announcement will be formally made tomorrow. But gleaning from news reports, this is the deal:

The Ford govt has failed adults with developmental disabilities despite years of warnings from families, frontline workers, and now the Ombudsman. There are over 53,000 people on the waitlist. This is unacceptable.

Ontario must invest in proper community care now.

Many of Ontario’s ‘most vulnerable’ are not receiving proper care, ombudsman says
Paul Dube blames two ministries — health and community and social services — for repeatedly dropping the ball following a 2016 investigation into the problem.

Yep.
And that doesn't even touch on what climate catastrophe is going to do. They're talking about forcibly relocating a city of 10 million people in Iran because THERE IS NO WATER. That's just ONE city, and it's just the first. There will be more. Welcome to all the dystopias, all at once.
You think wealth inequality is bad now? In two years, this planet will be economically unrecognizable, as AI tech wealth is streamlined into a handful of pockets while hundreds of millions of people are suddenly rendered unemployable. Yes, two years. The "Big Compression" is coming: 2028-2033.

90% of deep fake images online are non-consensual pornographic images of women and girls.

And yet, these images are not yet illegal in Canada.
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This year's theme is digital abuse.

Fewer than 40% of countries have laws protecting women from cyber harassment or cyber stalking. This leaves 44% of the world’s women and girls without access to legal protection.

Same experience a year ago. In hospital a few days, saw 4 masks total while there!

I wore KN95 day and night, new mask every 8 hours, and came home without Covid.

Far too people are catching Covid in hospitals and other medical settings.

I was hospitalized overnight last week briefly and of the probably 20 people that worked on me. I would say maybe four or five wore a mask. These include paramedics, firefighters, and ER staff. 🙃

Given that a significant percentage of infectious covid cases are asymptomatic, a more effective policy is to just require (or at least strongly recommend) masking! You can't really know who's sick and who isn't by symptoms or self reports alone. health.clevelandclinic.org/asymptomatic...
What Is Asymptomatic COVID-19 and Are You Contagious?
An estimated 1 in 5 people infected with the coronavirus never develop symptoms. But they can still get you sick. Learn more about asymptomatic COVID-19 from an infectious disease specialist.

Good reminder!

We ask sick people to wait in their car in the parking lot and bring them in when we're ready to get them straight back to an exam room (with negative pressure). We have a tiny waiting area, and no option for a separate "sick side" and "well side."

Patient came in with sore throat. While waiting for rapid Strep test result we glanced back at the Covid-19 RAT result: positive. Reminder that masking in health care makes sense, if you don’t want everyone in your waiting room to go home sick, your staff to get sick, and physicians to get sick.
