I feel like my mother’s potato salad is very specifically being attacked here and I’ll not stand for it.
I don’t like being referred to as a Yankee but I’ve realized this is not at all because I’m Southern, but because I specifically resent being associated with traditional New England Protestant culture and its flavorless foods
All people from the U.S. are Yankees. I say this as a person born and raised in The South because pissing off That Specific Kind of Southerner is a moral good.

This is correct. It is not the heroin, it’s just the man he is.
I am a little tired of being yelled at for this but apparently not tired about: heroin addiction is not RFK’s problem. He’s a sociopath. Most addicts aren’t. Honestly, walk into an NA meeting, grab the first person with a few years to be head of HHS and they’d probably do a better job than Bobby.
This is what happens when you put a privileged, 14 year heroin addict in charge of health. Duh

People who bring up the “Is Die Hard a Christmas movie” question every year are insufferable regardless of which side they land on.

…don’t do this. Don’t try to make another Die Hard. Please…

Nice to see a Democrat outright defend the humanities and the arts rather than taking the right-wing assault on them at face value.
New York City helped my mother become the artist she is today. The next generation deserves a City Hall that lifts up tomorrow's artists as well.

AND supporting your local library is super important! If you actually DO want books to be available to everyone, the library *already exists* and is staffed by the people who are deep in the trenches of fighting censorship! Supporting the library is doing actual good for your community!
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

drug addiction is an illness. lots of addicts are lovely people who are not trying to destroy the public health system and murder children. 1

This is true of those who write for magazines and websites and newspapers too. Being a writer does not, for the vast majority, bring in anywhere near enough money to live on.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

So next time people wanna ask about why authors don’t talk about their personal finances online to strangers let’s all remember how strangers online behave to writers.

Every time I see a post like this it’s from an author who, if they save and invest their earnings very wisely could someday afford a large pizza and all the comments are from people acting like they’re fighting for the working class masses.
I would not personally trust my book to a press whose founder is saying it’s okay to pirate books

We often accuse the democrats of following polls rather than leading but it’s often even worse. They follow narratives created out of thin air by republicans.
All caveats about polls being assumed... even among 'men', the view of trans people is somewhere between 'positive' to 'don't care' for 69%, which just goes to show the insanity (aside from the cruelty) of targeting trans people for political points.
Reminder that lesbians have a more positive view of trans people than trans people do

I look at replies to this stuff and there’s so much rejoicing at the idea of MAGAts suffering. And I could point out that the suffering isn’t gonna discriminate, which is true, but also I can’t help thinking that I’m not a huge fan of people suffering en masse but thats just me I guess…

It’s not a fuck you to Trump. The tide has turned and they are realizing they’ve torpedoed their careers and legacies and now they’re trying the old “You can’t fire me I quit” gambit. Our national has been functionally destroyed by the choices they made, and they must never be free of that.
The rumor is more GOP members of Congress are getting ready to retire as a fuck you to the White House.

Why not do it today?
