also if I can Stoicism post just a bit: this is also what memento mori is for. you are going to die someday - do you really imagine than one of your regrets will be that you didn't organize more of your life around what random Redditors think is gay?

So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

Here is a hastily constructed animated gif from different NASA satellites showing the progression of the Hayli Gubbi eruption. Note the tall ash plume spreading NE (right) and a lower, light tan ash flow(?) moving NNW. #eruption #volcano

i just reviewed 50+ applications for an arts award and most of them were written by chatgpt. And then the other reviewers said they put them into Gemini to rank them. At a certain point, if everyone is giving their thinking entirely over to AI, why are we even bothering with any of this anymore?

TODAY: We staged a die-in in front of the National Security Ministry to protest our government’s racist policy of ignoring crime and violence in Israel’s Palestinian community. Just this year, 231 Palestinians in Israel have been killed – men, women, and children. (1/2)

2. Seven years of grad school was preferable to going into the workforce

Imagine, if you will, that NASA updated its website to suggest gravity might not exist, prompting CalTech and CERN to release statements saying, "With great sadness, we can no longer recommend listening to NASA."

This is what's happening in epidemiology.

Myth: men aren't interested in women who pursue advanced degrees

Fact: I semi-regularly encourage my fiancée to consider grad school and she's like "I REJECT YOUR HONEYED WORDS FOUL DEMON, YOU WILL NOT TAKE ME IN SO EASILY"
Hopefully the knowledge that advanced degrees ward off the most insecure men on the planet will encourage more women to pursue PhDs

While letters of yore would attempt to signal seriousness with exhaustive if often incoherent technical detail, the current crop of LLM-induced letters are hopelessly vague, carrying grandiose names (a unified theory of fractal cybernetic enthalpy) but without any detail, mathematical or otherwise.

Some tongues were made to praise God. Some tongues were made to sing. Some were made for poetry, some for prose, some to agitate and some to soothe.

But some tongues were made for the boot.

🫵 Lysenkoism!

Changing a few sentences won't change reality. Without robust vaccine and public health infrastructure, we're unequipped to handle the inevitable: more fatal, frequent, and far-ranging outbreaks of preventable disease that will go unaddressed by a HHS worshipping ideology > evidence.
CDC has overhauled its website to assert that “the claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim”

It doesn’t matter how much you exercise or how many veggies you eat when it comes to a pandemic.

These things will not stop it, and the shitbirds that Trump has installed in leading public health positions should be fired for even suggesting it would.

The NIH is picking up Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s argument that a healthy immune system can keep even pandemic germs at bay.

the most radical belief I have that I actually think should be normal is this:

The people whose job it is to figure out how to make a business make money should not be the ones in charge of a company. They should be, at best, a subservient department within a company, on par tech support or HR
