Shame on me for assuming “Democracy dies in darkness” was a warning instead of a playbook

My friend @koziarz.com is telling stories about Pat Lawlor Design, the company where we worked together designing pinball machines. Good reading and not just for the photos of when I had hair that wasn’t grey.
You're probably wondering how I got here.

We'll have to backtrack a bit before going forward. The PLD Monopoly story is fun, but this wasn't what we intended to do out of the gate. Williams closed in October 1999 but Mono launched in Fall 2001. What happened in between?

Can #AI really make it easier to work with a #content management system?

You betcha. And Greg Dunlap (@heyrocker.com) tells us how in our next free virtual event:

AI for Content Authoring, Wed, Feb 18, 2026, 6:00 PM | Meetup
AI is inescapable in the modern tech landscape. But so many of the use cases that people are talking about don't seem to help in typical day-to-day content struggles. This

If you are a person who works in social media, and your job requires you to manage an account on Twitter/X, please ask your boss, in writing, to verify that you are required as a responsibility of your position to be on a platform that knowingly creates and monetizes child sexual abuse material …

Oh hey friends, if you’re a Verizon customer and they are trying to give you the $20 desire for the outage the other day, DO NOT TAKE IT. You don’t have to even call them. Get onto the web chat, type in “agent”, tell them the outage affected your work, and say you’ve been a customer for X years.

Clockwork Orange for sure.
What is the movie you have seen the most times that you would say you do NOT like?

the only thing that keeps me sane is the idea that my entire life is just a save state on a 17-year-old's galactic computer, and now he's just mashing the buttons because he's bored. any other explanation falls apart.
??? Apparently Venezuela oil revenues will go into “offshore accounts” outside of the US Treasury, PBS reports.

One of my most memorable filmgoing experiences was a screening of Sátántangó at Northwest Film Forum some years back. An enthralling experience. I've never been so glad I spent seven hours in a movie theatre. RIP Béla Tarr.

it is almost as if accommodating and conceding to far right ideas legitimizes them and signals to voters that the far right is a legitimate choice for governance
The Danish Social Democrats are currently on course for their worst election result since at least the Second World War, despite their brand of far-right accommodationism being touted as a blueprint for other centre-left parties.

@amikebloomtype.bsky.social @jessliese.bsky.social I just finally caught up with TAR and my god ... that chicken. It is going to haunt my nightmares. Did they get David Lynch's ghost to come back from the dead and direct this segment? Easily the creepiest and most bizarre thing in series history.

Like so many others in the fed space, I'm currently looking for new opportunities. My goal is to find a place to land full time, but until then I'm open to short term contracts. Got a CMS project you need architected? A gnarly multi-site content inventory and analysis gig? Give a holler.

@jessliese.bsky.social I noticed we didn’t have departure times in this week’s episode. Do you have any idea why they would do that?

I’d never tell anyone they MUST* understand JavaScript to work on the web, but I will make the case that one SHOULD*. To understand JavaScript is to know the boundaries of how users can interact with your medium — any role is improved by that.

Y’all think you’re old, there were no video games the year I was born. Like the entire concept of a video game was still ten years away.
If you see this, quote skeet with a screenshot from a video game that released the year you were born.

A presidential address about political violence would have made sense in June following the assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Minnesota House speaker.

But, she wasn't a Republican.

Instead, tonight, we got this.

It's all so horrifying, and I don't really know what else to say.

Gavin Newsom literally dressed up in his best Bad Boy™️ attire, invited the press, and smiled as he destroyed everything these constituents had in the world.

Gavin Newsom is not a bad candidate;

Gavin Newsom is truly, at his core, a bad and despicable human being.
