Most creative industries run on a business model that demands creatives constantly feed it with pitched ideas or free work on spec, but offers them no long-term employment or financial security. These industries are *subsidized* by the other work artists are forced to take on to support themselves.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

That last sentence really hammering home how insane implementing this, because the time between 16 and voting age is *less than an election cycle long*

You're actively pissing off an entire bloc of voters for this
Waited to get the court docs before reporting on the high court challenge to the social media ban.

They reveal an injunction will be sought against esafety, the minister and the govt to stop enforcement. And one of the teens is turning 16 before the ban.

There’s a reason when I talk and write about writing screenplays, I talk about the *craft* and not the industry. I can write a very compelling screenplay and coach others to do so. But you learn very quickly succeeding the industry has almost nothing to do with how good your script is.
Said with love but there is a tone deafness in the "just write your spec!" advice that seems to be totally ignored in the current climate.

It works if you're repped. If reps are taking new clients. If places are buying A LOT. If rooms are staffing unknowns/lower levels. If not? It's a platitude.

the exception to these rules tends to be countries with big cost diffs, for example the classic "it's like months worth of salary for one game" or alternatively "there is literally no legal way to procure the game in that territory" and, well
if you want to fix those, it's not with DRM or moralizing
