This government loves to redo an independent reivew that was too independent and didn't produce the result they wanted
An independent taskforce *just* did a huge review of ADHD in England, and the conclusion was that it's "under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated."

two tech men having an incredibly annoying meeting next to me in the café and one of them just said "the thing I love about SEO is.....the culture", gobsmacking, beautiful piece of dialogue, would have struggled with it in a sitcom yet he just said it, in real life

One way I quickly know I was never meant to be a normal English man is I cannot for the life of me see the appeal of Nigel fucking Farage. I cannot understand why everyone in the media decided this man is magic. There is nothing attractive or charming or compelling there, just sickly & unpleasant

called CVS to check whether my medication(s) were ready. the phone tree had a new voice. curiously, it responded much more slowly to spoken instructions than the last one. it also didn't support using the GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING KEYPAD!

Embarrassingly, the only thing that really made me start properly engaging in art was reaching a point with my jewelry where everyone kept telling me i was an artist. But hey that means i can go revisit the things stuck in my memory and see a bit of why i’m Like This lol.

the metaverse is all about having a camera pointed at your face at all times. "AI" "wearables" point a camera at everyone else's face at all times. it's not a fucking pivot dude is literally just obsessed with getting upskirt pics and has been for decades
Meta Platforms is planning cuts to the metaverse—an arena Mark Zuckerberg once called the future of the company—and will shift spending to AI wearables.
Meta Plans to Shift Spending Away From the Metaverse
Zuckerberg’s bet on immersive online worlds has lost the company more than $77 billion since 2020.

The people you should really be scared of on the Subway are the ones applying impeccable eye makeup on a moving train. They fear nothing and make sure you know it.

an idle thought you’ve spawned: I think chasing that line of thinking, there’s maybe an interesting conversation to be had around LLMs as automated appropriation at scale. (eg: the “everything looks like ghibli now” phase, etc)

whereas rust was once symbolic of a queer revolution, where empowering engineers made it possible for small teams of experts to quickly overcome google's best, its every edifice has since been turned into a weapon for harm.

"It isn't REALLY a ban, they could always just sell it elsewhere" is fundamentally the same argument as "they aren't TECHNICALLY a monopoly" in that they both completely overlook the material realities and impacts of companies like Steam across an entire industry and ecosystem
One of the many things worth thinking about re: Steam's ban on Horses is how it highlights is the centralization problem caused by having such a monolithic (and maybe mono-something-else) retail giant.

Independent studios with even humble commercial aspirations are chained to Valve's whims.

one of the valences of appropriation is as a technique to defang and disempower the people whose experience of disenfranchisement is inextricable from their unique talent. for example, disco and jazz from Black american artists, house from gay chicagoans, now repackaged into mainstream EDM

I’m so, so tired of AI, I’m so tired of me being against it being seen as combative and hostile, I’m so tired of wanting to use AI being seen as the norm for anyone even remotely near tech, I’m fucking miserable and nobody seems to care, just be more miserable, but use ai so you’re faster.

Hang on I got my I'm gonna be annoying list here somewhere

Ok ok

Basically the peak is the abstract synesthesia games - REZ, Lumines, Metros, Tetris effect - cuz they're using the interactive medium to make you feel things, they're not trying to be a movie, or a novel, it's pure UX interaction
(honest question) what are the “good” video games? artistically i mean, not in a “i enjoyed this escapist slop” kind of way
Well. It's not Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's like one of three video games I'd genuinely consider good.

okay, I have to wonder how many of the people declaring that disability accommodations have gone "too far":
1. are disabled.
2. went through the process themselves.
3. work in higher ed at all.
4. read ANY critical disability studies work at all? Like, any?
