Yeah things are bad. Yeah they need to be paid attention to.

But here's a picture of a cat we met at a gay bar in Amsterdam to take a break from it all with.

Okay the resurgence of unconnected items is coming back and I'm thrilled to have found this again and the fact that it still works with a crazy battery life after charging for 24hrs. Now I just have to figure out how to get newer stuff on it.

Fucking yikes.

*sigh* yeaaaaaaaaaaah....
I think covid and Jan 6 broke a lot of brains in people not accustomed to thinking of themselves as vulnerable (especially Congressfolk) and they’ve settled on LARPing an imaginary version of life in this country instead of getting therapy
It's kind of wild that there are something like 250 Democrats serving in the House and Senate right now and all of them are just showing up to work to like rename post offices and stuff. I wonder what that's like.

I have more than a few friends in tech that have been basically unemployed for almost a year or longer. I work in the hands on part of healthcare and SO FAR we haven't seen much effect, but I ain't banking on that forever...
Since ChatGPT came out in late 2022, over *half a million* tech workers have been laid off. That fact, and their voices, aren't really shaping the conversation about AI, and what "AI" really means in culture. So I started to get into it: www.anildash.com/2026/01/06/5...

New years day, we went to a friend's for a giant queer brunch of hot chocolate and croissants. Then we went to a bar to watch the Stranger Things finale. Then we swung by another friend's to give them their holiday present and ate tiramisu. Went home, ate some hoppin John, and slept like a rock.

I've been trying to come up with a good way to word this but I think there really isn't anything to do other than say it:

I've had many AI nudes and sexually suggestive images generated of me and sent to me via burner emails. Started last year, kept going through today.

This is where we are.

Okay, might as well get this started.

It's January 1, which means, as I'm sure you all know, that there's a whole new bunch of characters who have entered the public domain. This time around, it's characters created in 1930.

The following is a list of pulp & pulpy characters now in the p.d.

One of the most important pieces I've read this year. A lot of journalists tried to capture what it was like on the ground, as Chicagoans resisted an onslaught of federal agents attacking our neighbors, and @melissagiragrant.com pulled it off.

Residents have organized a formidable network to protect immigrant communities from Trump’s brutal deportation program. Their efforts are making a genuine difference.

THE DAY CARES ARE LOCKED BECAUSE YOU MADE A GENERATION-LONG EFFORT TO MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE TO KILL THE CHILDREN INSIDE THEM YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING GHOULS
these fucking people. they pass laws to make sure every person with a screw loose who wants an Armalite can show up to the day care armed & ready to kill, then complain that the day cares are locked to protect the children inside
CNN: “Surely you don’t think a daycare should be unlocked.”

SHIRLEY: “There should be a reception area.”

CNN: “No, every day care is locked.”

SHIRLEY: “Fair point.” 🤔

He shows up to a day care with masked men and wonders why they don’t let him in.

Trumpers have a howling void of angry insecurity where a soul should be. Unchecked power tastes like ashes in their mouth because they thought when they got it everyone would be forced to like and admire them even though they’re irredeemable assholes. But people still treat them like assholes.

Remember the big debate a year ago about a proposed plan to cut CPD's Office of Constitutional Policing & Reform budget by eliminating long-vacant positions? In the end it was added back to the budget.

As of the end of Nov 2025, there were 19 position filled.

The same as the end of 2024.
OCPR budget v reality

2023
budgeted positions: 45
jobs filled at end of year: 14

2024
budgeted positions: 65
jobs filled as of 9/30: 19

Where does that $ actually go and why?

Okay this is potentially kinda a huge deal for a lot of things. Taxes. Mail in ballots...
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

Went to see Linda Barry with my wife at a Comic Con panel ages ago. Matt Groening and his family snuck in ten minutes after it started and sat right in front of us. After it was over, he asked what we thought and we talked for like five minutes.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
