I’m very thankful to Stephanie Maltarich at @cires.colorado.edu for this writeup about efforts to reform how scientific fieldwork operates. To make it less hostile & exclusionary, and *actually* safer.

From our research talks @ AGU about this subject. The work is ongoing. #disability 🧪

How to Film ICE
Filming federal agents in public is legal, but avoiding a dangerous—even deadly—confrontation isn’t guaranteed. Here’s how to record ICE and CBP agents as safely as possible and have an impact.

I love the notes of subversion. A la…

“Fuck your false binary choice. It’s the system that’s broken, and we know how to break that system. Reject the binary harm-is-inevitable options fed to you. Look for ways to do better.”

Also. Go organized labor.

Yeah, we do, indeed, need this. We don’t deserve it, but —whoa— do we need this.

I see colleagues quote-dunking and blocking each other over the usage + definition of “sand” today.

I’d encourage everyone to go out and touch some low-growing plants that have slender straight leaves.

If I wanted screenshots of all-the-worst-people’s hot takes from Twitter, I’d re-create my Twitter account.

I know vapid rage-bait is effective for engagement, but it’s become a new habit of mine to unfollow people who post screenshots from X just to dunk. Even if I agree with you. It’s annoying.

In Minneapolis, one man knew immediately what he could offer and said “Bring me your clothing”.

Hi Colorado.

In case it wasn’t obvious, vote a big giant “HA HA, HELL NO” on this measure this fall. I’m honestly surprised they got it onto the ballot.
Colorado voters will be deciding this year on a conservative-backed constitutional amendment to require collaboration with ICE.

The SOS just announced that this proposal qualified for the ballot, background on it here from @coloradosun.com: coloradosun.com/2025/12/22/w...
Would Initiative 95 require police in Colorado to work with ICE?
Yes. If passed, Proposition 95 would require police to alert immigration authorities after some arrests, if a person's immigration status is unknown.

Really annoyed that you can’t buy ground turkey any more that isn’t so chock-full of added water (“rosemary extract”) that it isn’t swimming in its own thin soup within a minute if you try to brown it in a pan.

And *all the brands* do it.

No! The criticism of the Dems isn't that they never win elections, it's that they don't use power to solve the problems that got us here. Elite impunity, concentration of wealth, the unitary executive. Winning is only step 1
New - Chuck Schumer to haters: “The answer to these critics is to win. If we win back the Senate, that will answer every question"

Peltola “was the last piece to the puzzle"

He says Dem path to Senate is Ohio, Alaska, Maine and NC. Dems are watching Texas/Iowa

Help menus today. Le sigh.

I'm like "How do I XYZ?"

Software's AI-bot goes: "Great question! Go to the 'File --> Settings --> XYZ' menu and then check 'Enable'. Obviously!"

Me: "That menu doesn't even exist."

Software: "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Great chat!"

I’ve wondered this at our Safeway, especially the self-check lanes. “Maybe I’m biased” b/c I typically figure they’re trying to cheat us. But they always say my produce is 1.3 or 1.5+ lbs when I swear-to-god it can’t be more than a pound or so.

Sometime, I’ll bring a 1.0 lb weight just to see.

Unsolicited advice for anyone on Bluesky who wants to fight fascism in 2026 - don't stress about following big national accounts.

Instead, follow LOCAL groups and people who are doing actual work on the ground. Join them and do stuff right in your community. THAT'S where the real action is. ❤️💪

I knew most would 🙄 & scroll by, but I wasn’t quite ready for the # of angry responses I’d get here.

Growing up in the 80s, “That’s gay!” was a common pejorative for anything you disliked. Straight line -> to the 90s AIDS epidemic being “just god’s punishment.”

Language actually matters, y’all. 🧵
I beg y’all. Find other adjectives besides “insane”, “psychotic”, and “crazy” to describe evil times and evil people.

Mental illness is a whole host of disabilities that people manage and live with their entire lives. No need to casually equate it with evil & shocking. They are not the same thing.

For those who push the myth “we gotta keep tossing marginalized populations under the bus to win elections, caring about them costs us” (that’s never worked!), consider a different approach.

Centering those who’re harmed the most will build the best world for literally everyone. Listen. to. them.
