This year my annual solstice open water dip…was a hot shower that felr amazing after I’d been ill.
I rather feel this sums up my year, although it would be nice to raise my hopes for next year, just a bit.

"And Tiny Tim, who did not die" = heartwarming, Christmassy.

"And Tiny Tim, who would not die" = sinister, alarming.

Just got a marketing email about ‘how to stay fit over Christmas’ and err this is displeasing to me.
If you are fit, as the headline suggested, you will stay fit regardless of a day or a week off of training. So just do your thing. Enjoy Christmas.

Fitness is not a binary on/off thing OK.

This is such CEO Brain bullshit, from a class that is so morbidly afraid of missing The Next Big Thing that they all end up like ants in a death loop because as soon as someone starts chasing a trend, the rest mindlessly follow, no matter how glaringly, obviously bad the trend is.

I have been deprived of the usually scheduled Tuesday afternoon treat with my kid as the gym cafe was shut. Kid was also deprived.

If, as a freelancer, you think that’s bad, probably don’t check what that £750 is adjusted for inflation.

[look away now]

(It’s somewhere between £30,000–40,000. Good grief.)
Going through Churchill's financial history. Slightly taken aback that the going rate for one of his freelance articles in the 1920s was £750.

I am 48, fat, and cannot be arsed to do makeup. I do not want to record videos promoting my books. I have explained this to publishers in exactly these words, but it’s a 50/50 on whether it takes.
As more and more creators are expected to be on camera to promote their comics, can we talk for a second about how this opens up female creators to intense harassment about their looks?

Not to mention a lot of "You only have a career in comics because you're good looking" comments?

And of course introducing it as part of a package to protect women and girls from violence. That is sickening. Piggy-backing a major attack on civil liberties on top of efforts to combat violence against women is utterly vile.

The UK should be embarrassed that a Labour government -- a LABOUR government -- is proposing measures which even the Chinese government hasn’t implemented. Effectively, control over what everyone sees at the device level, on both mobile and computers.

In an effort at something good on the internet today: A thread on Mr KJC, gingerbread architect of the early 21st century.

Mr KJC got his beginnings like so many gingerbread architects: with a kit house for the kids. Kind of fun but the premade pieces are dry and nasty, only technically edible.

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.

This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com
Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint
If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

Gutted. Infinite Monkey Cage is by far my favourite radio show. But also, the BBC shouldn’t be pushing out people with morals. None of this is OK. I’m sad for Robin, sad for the show, sad for the fans, and sad for all the many people the BBC is too scared to support.

Approaching the end of the year already - and trying to (not over) think about what I would like to do next year. What would I change, what would I keep the same.

Sometimes, the list is fine. It’s OK, it’s manageable. Other times it is overwhelming and awful with its damning judgement.
